Title: GUESTS, NEWBIES, VETERANS: Fire Departments/O2
Post by SommelierCH on Jan 30th, 2003, 8:37am
If we’ve done this before, we should do it again…and again.

It would be great if each of us wrote (snail mail) to both, our Local and District Fire Captains, thanking the Dept. for the job they do, and introducing ourselves as Cluster Headache sufferers or supporters. Perhaps we should include a page from Dr. Goadsby, explaining why we (any Clusterhead) might be stumbling and cursing onto their doorstep in the middle of the night, seeking O2.

With our grass roots ability to reach out, individually, town to town, across the country, if not the world, we will lay the ground work for any Clusterhead, caught in a strange city, without meds, to find relief at the local Firehouse. The Fire Departments come in contact with lots of people, this will also help to get the word out.

Here is a web site that has the addresses for fire departments in the U.S. Click on your state, then click on your town.

http://www.fire-ems.net/

Maybe we could send the Firehouses an OUCH decal to put in the window, like a “Neighborhood Watch” or “Block Parent” sign.

Could somebody please, post a brief, general form letter (with Dr. Goadsby), to the Fire Captains, for us to copy?

Post back here, with pride, if you sent a letter.

PFDAN,
David J.

My local fire department knows exactly what cluster headaches are and they know me.

Your suggestion is a great one. In addition to letting the local FD's know, also contact your local EMS administration.

Don't forget, when you send that letter to include a little donation if you are at all able. Fire / Rescue budgets in most cases are laughable. Any amount recieved is always welcomed. Most councils use budget monies for the other necessitites like more helicopters for the sherriffs office (TONGUE IN CHEEK).

I will send a copy to both counties in my area.

Hi Sommelier,
It's a good idea! Although our hungarian system is other. We have 15 fire dept. in Budapest (it's a 2 million town) but we have only one ambulance 'dept.' (After your call you may get the nearest free ambulance car on the road.)
I'll try to get in touch with our ER hospitals to make some 'PR work'.
