Title: Re: Blake has been rushed to the hospital! Post by Jackie on Dec 31st, 2002, 10:45pm Blake is OK. He had a huge kidney stone. We were in the emergency room for over 5 hours but he talked the doctor into letting him come home. He is/was one sick man. He had his "normal" noon cluster attack and then this hit. The only good thing about the whole deal is the early evening CH didn't happen... :) I'm hoping the midnight one leaves him alone too. Thanks for posting, E.......and thank all of you for the thoughts and prayers. This is a great family....even though the reason we are SUCKS!!!! Some fine way to get "stoned" on New Years Eve... >:( (pardon the pun... ::)) Love to you all and Happy New Year :-* Jacks 8) |

Title: Re: Blake has been rushed to the hospital! Post by Brassbear on Jan 1st, 2003, 2:44pm As soon as I read that opening I told Mary "that sounds like a stone to me." Since 1975 I've passed 76 of those mothers. And yeah, the big ones hurt as much as a CH, just move the pain to your lower back and groin. Lots o' fun. NOT! Glad Blake is ok, he handles the beast, he can deal with the stone. Stay away from coffee until it's gone and push fluids like crazy! NO DAIRY products! Wishing ya'll the best in 03! Michael |

Title: Re: Blake has been rushed to the hospital! Post by Blake on Jan 1st, 2003, 2:56pm Michael, Thanks for the tips. Damn, I'm gonna miss my coffee for a while it looks like. Title: Re: Blake has been rushed to the hospital! Post by Brassbear on Jan 1st, 2003, 3:11pm Blake: Yeah, well the stones are a present from everyone's favorite uncle... Sam. Got sprayed with agent organge a couple of times in Nam and the stones are part of the results. All but 4 have been "gravel" that's a small stone, usually just a bit bigger than a BB. Still no fun. There are two types of stones. 1 is uric acid. 2 is calcium oxolate. The first type of stone you can use cranberry juice to help with them, the second type, cranberry is an absolute no-no. So is caffiene, and carbonated soda with carmel coloring in it (no colas dude!) and limit your intake of dairy especially cheese and milk. We are not supposed to do tea either but I drink tons of it while passing a stone. Why? It's a mild diuretic (that means it makes you pee). The more you pee, the more you move the stone and the quicker you get it passed. Once the stone hits the bladder there is a major relief in the pain, until it starts passing through... uh, you know. Common symptoms are" Lower back pain on the side of the stone. Pain in the abdomen on the side of the stone, and feeling like a NFL field goal kicker bagged you really bad. PUSH FLUIDS like crazy, it's the key. Good luck dude, and hang tough! Michael |

Title: Re: Blake has been rushed to the hospital! Post by Edna on Jan 3rd, 2003, 12:18am same here ree, but best wishes to ya Blake my husband had that, Michael's advice is sound....all the same the docs advised us with stay away from the carbonated drinks especially my hubby was an addict.........that pain was so bad it pushed him away from them He used to always say he would of gladly had a baby if he could of...........well ask him that now......the answer has changed..........said that stone hurt sooooo bad that if it was HALF as bad as child labor, forget it.......he would never do it now even if he could. So that kinda gives us some idea as to how bad it is for you, so sending you well wishes Hope it passes you soon EDNA |
