Title: Re: Margi Whats in the yellow container??? Post by Margi on Dec 23rd, 2002, 9:05pm oh LOL ......ooops. :o guess i taped the packets over the english. take the packets off. then you'll see. ;) hint: you have to use these two ingredients together to make one of the things in the verse...i couldn't ship the real thing because it would spoil, so this is a kind of do-it-yourselfer. lemme know what you figure out, TS. |

Title: Re: Margi Whats in the yellow container??? Post by Margi on Dec 24th, 2002, 10:22am Awright, Awright, I'll tell ya... this is something Monique introduced to me. It's a custom to give this to people when they move to a new home, to bless the new home and the new life you'll have there. In actuality, you're supposed to present the recipient with each item and say these words as you do that. "May God bless your home with: BREAD, so you never go hungry, SALT, so you always have spice in your life, and WINE, so you never forget to celebrate." Now, sending salt was fairly easy, just got a little picnic set of salt and pepper. The wine, well - it's illegal to ship liquor, so I bought the tiniest bottle I could find and wrote "books" on the Customs declaration, so SHHHHHH. But, see, mailing real bread during the Christmas rush isn't such a hot idea. I figured Elaine and Buddy would be opening up a mouldy disgusting slab of guck, and I didn't think they would appreciate that too much. So, I got inventive. I went and bought 3 packets of yeast and taped them to a can of flour, with the note 'you'll have to make the bread yourself :-[' - I figured it was the only way. Here, in Canada, everything we buy is labelled bilingually and I hardly even notice it anymore. I must have taped the yeast packets over the English side of the flour can. DOH! :o That's my story, and I'm stickin to it. |

Title: Re: Margi Whats in the yellow container??? Post by cootie on Dec 24th, 2002, 1:21pm Hope she didn't mistake the flour for 'talcom powder'....would become a wet noodle after a bath with flour...ha-ha....oh and hope the yeast had english showin so she knew what that was to....sure it wouldn't bubble well in a bath. Happy holidays from camp bah-humbug.......Pam |

Title: Re: Margi Whats in the yellow container??? Post by Linda_Howell on Dec 24th, 2002, 6:55pm Hey Margi....... I just watched "It's a wonderful Life" for the 197th. time. At some point......Jimmy Stewarts wife presents a guy named Martini with those same things and says those same things....Always thought it was so great. Elaine, I wish I had thought of it. Shipping as bottle of wine with in the states is not illegal. But I also wish you the same. I want to add something too: May your house always be filled with laughter and good friends and may your roof never leak......Linda |
