Never having used a preventative when I had clusters, I am curious about the effects of Vera.

Does it actually cause you to skip cycles? Or make it longer between cycles?

I only started on Vera when the cycle was already up and running.
I have the feeling I got the whole cycle, though Vera took care of (most of the) attacks and the ones that got away were slapped down by O2.

Can't say I felt I skipped a cycle. I felt it was there all the time, till it stopped - if that's any use to you.
How are you doing anyway? Not getting hit, are you?

All I can say is that, after two totally _screwed_ cycles, I came back here at the onset of the 3rd, wormed my way thru all the garbage, started on O2/Triptan/Verap protocol. Results have been stellar, albeit shadowed heavily. Broke out of Hell Zone in just over 3 weeks, instead of 12-14. Will get back to you in <, =, >, three years.
Don't know whether to apply for the CH Poster Boy success story, or as Jonny's co-pilot. Crap........

Vera broke my cycle mid stream (about 6 weeks into a normal 14 - 16 week cycle). Haven't been on it forever, like some so I can't answer all of your questions.
And I would vote for ya Mr Happy. Maybe you could do some artwork for the poster.... ;D
Verapamil is a god send. IMHO.

Hi Donna

I've been on verapamil for 2 years now. Has it helped me skip a cycle...NO! Has it stopped a cycle.... the jury is still out. If I take 480 mg's a day, I'm pretty good attackwise. My heart on the other hand doesn't like it..so I cannot take it at that dosage. I started on lithium about a month ago and it seems to be doing the trick. I know I'm still in cycle cause I get wicked shadows, but that's it...just shadows. Cycle is SUPPOSE to end on New Year's. Wish me luck!

480 everyday for over a decade and no sideffects.

Dont know about cycle, im chronic....but you know that.

I never vote but love all types of fishing.

IMHO Verapamil has no influence on the length of the cycle, the length of remission nor the number of attacks.
All it does is to dampen down the attacks, in the ideal case to no pain at all. But his feature make it very useful as preventative :D.
He/she who tries to take away my Verapamil must be prepared for severe injury or even death.

Donna, I hope your question does not mean that you intend to go back to clustering ;D.

I kept upping my rate till I hit 300...then I got no pain for over a year. A month or so ago I got hit. I upped it to 480 and they have once again stopped totally.

Whatta ya call it? End of cycle? I just don't know.....and frankly Scarlet....

I can't answer the question either, this is the FIRST year (out of 11 of using verap retard) that verap immediate release has worked for me!! whoo hoo

Wow friends, thanks for your concern. No, I haven't started up again.......I'd be writing in caps and you'd actually hear me.

This info was for someone I met thru my docs office and I wanted her to read it, if she visits here like I hope she does.

I'll have to agree with Ueli's post. I've only taken verapamil during one cycle, and I'm not currently taking it while in remission, so I can't really say anything about changing the length of remission. I do know that it didn't help break my cycle at all, but it did reduce the number of attacks. I did continue to have shadows and occasional breakthroughs until I finally went into remission.
