Title: CH and meegraines on national TV Post by Lapsi_Harmaahapsi on Dec 10th, 2002, 5:29am Finnish, that is. ;) Yesterday on "Ben Furman Show". The host interviewed 2 female meegrainers and 1 male clusterhead. The women talked for 20 - 30 minutes about their pain and how debilitating it is and how weird the auras are etc etc. Granted, their migraines were pretty much as severe as it gets. The guy (8 years episodic, gets hit every 2 years, bouts last up to 6 months) explains CH in 2 minutes and when asked "how's the pain?" he answers "Pretty bad. The worst thing is the sleep-deprivation". (he gets hit from every other night to 2 times/night, from 30 mins to maybe 2 hours at time). I was hoping for more graphic description, now this is just a normal (1-sided) HA.. There was a female "specialist of neurology", but she talked mainly about migraines and let the CH-talking to the male sufferer.. at least they mentioned that it's very often misdiagnosed. The guy was diagnosed for a meegrainer a few times and medicated for sinus infection also. The CHer also said that it is estimated that Finland has from 200 to 2000 CHers.. that'd be from 1/25000 to 1/2500. Well, at least they had some accurate information too. Mis-information among correct information is better than no information at all! The funny thing is that I think my cycle started this morning.. woke up (late) to a weirdly familiar HA. The pain wasn't all that strong, but the "agitation" it caused was the same I remember so well. Now I have to visit my "old" uneducated neuros, since others would think I was a wannabe. >:( (I'm very much "due" at this time, but I can definitely live with it if this little HA proves to be just a "stray"..) |

Title: Re: CH and meegraines on national TV Post by cerebus on Dec 10th, 2002, 6:49pm too bad the guy didn't have a HA right after being asked that question so the world could have seen just how "pretty bad" they are. LOL! Leave it to the media to find the most mild case they could come up with for the show. Would've been (nice 'n' sick) to see a chronic sufferer with 8-12 kip 10 HA's a day on the show. Oh well, guess you can't have your cake and eat it too. I hope you are PF still.........solidarity! Cerebus |
