In an idle moment I have checked the latest 60 subscribers and found:

75%	are neither male nor female (hermaphrodite or sexless?)
78%	have no age, probably older than dirt
83%	are homeless (trailer trash?)
58%	don't care to receive e-mail (or afraid of spam)

Could it be that the old timers were more eager to answer questions, if it were asked by somebody they knew a little bit more about than an often unpronounceable nickname?

Do you expect others to do footwork for people too lazy to click a button in their profile?

Just a thought

Very astute observation Ueli. I also read the Guestbook a couple of times a week and you make me wonder how many people make it from the Guestbook to the MB. Not many I am guessing and from reading some of the messages left in the guest book I am glad they don't make it to the MB. ;D

Just curious....and I really do not mean this as a slam, but, do you have nothing better to do than compile statistics? LOL!

I agree though, I reckon if one is going to take the effort to find us and post aout their troubles it would make sense to leave enough information for us to respond to and ty to help.

Agree with you, Ueli, but for the hidden e-mail. It IS a hassle deleting all the nigerian "help wanted" and the superwhambammy teen girls (what do they expect ME to do with the brats?) and the absolutely free offer of whatever.
Oh, and the snake oil pedlars.

On the while, I might have wanted my e-mail hidden, if I weren't such an optimist.

Umm. just to interject a little... lately have been getting PM's from new people... no posts... no email addresses, no age, gender, no nuttin'...just askin' where to chat, and other ..questions.

Its cool by me to answer what I can, a little weird though not knowin' anything about the other person at all....I'm sure many of you get this though with the few thousand members here..

just my 2 cents... ::)

Ueli... I would guess that most of those 60 members will probably never post a message either. Some ppl don't come here to socialize, or ask questions. And I don't blame ppl for not want to give out information about themselves on a site they may have just started to visit.

How many times have you given information to a site, and then a few weeks later find that the information was sold to a porn site, who is now flooding your e-mail box with spam? Or how about the people that prey on information they can find out about people online, and use it in less than polite ways? If you ask me, it makes perfect sence that someone joining a board to only read the posts and lurk would not provide any information except that which is required. It is also logical that someone joining to post a few questions, and try to get a little help, would not fill out every detail on the profile screen.

To tell the truth, I am fairly surprised how many active members on the board give as much information as they do. I mean... It's one thing to trust the people that you know and talk to regularly online, but anyone who joins the board can get the information you provide on your profile, and this information can be used for some very vile purposes.

All I'm trying to say is that there should be nothing wrong with someone trying to be a little careful, and protect their privacy.

I didn't hear anyone asking for name, rank, serial number, home address, telephone number, date of birth, SSN, driver license number, work address, ets. :o

It would be nice to at least be able to pronounce some of these screen names and know if we were speaking to a male or female..... ::) What's the harm in that... ???

I posted all of the info you mentioned, Ueli, but I can't think of a single spam email offer I've gotten as a result of posting that info here. I do have a firewall running to try to prevent access to the rest of my machine, but.....If someone wants more info on me, (although I can't imagine why) send me an email. I'll respond.
You are right tho, so many of our responses are "buttons on the left", "visit the OUCH site", "Click here". I guess its easier to ask than to actually look. Is this because dialups are much slower and it takes too much time? I don't know how fast the site is on dialup because I'm online with a cable modem. Just a thought.

Jackie... Calm yaself down a little bit girl... Take a valium or a midol or something. Ueli was complaining about the last 60 people to sign up not using their names, not listing their location, age, or e-mail. That's alot of information for a newbie to provide before they even know us. And why should they provide it if they aren't posting (which most of them probably aren't and won't)? With just a name, location, age, and e-mail address there's a pretty good chance of someone finding you address. Then if you consider the information you also reveal in your post, and you can be almost certain that someone can, and posibly will find you. It's not paranoia... It's fact.

I didn't mean to cause any trouble. I was just tryin' state a very important point... A certain level of privacy is a good idea while online.

I lurked about a week and wrote stuff to people in the guest book. I had no idea then what that might have led to. Still, if you don't have or understand clusters, I imagine we're very boring.

I think I got more spam after other stuff. So far as I know, nothing came from here other than a couple migraine "cure" deals. Haven't gotten more than six of those in two years. I don't get much spam anymore. One or two a day. Must be I smell worse than I thought
