Title: Re: Winter Weather Post by Drk^Angel on Dec 5th, 2002, 10:31am Winter weather? Where?? Where I'm from, this is more like mid-spring weather. Hell... I even made it to werk on time, and didn't even skid all the way through any red lights either. LOL The only problem I have are the native PA people. Here they are... In their 4X4 SUVs with snow tires on... Going 25 mph in a 45 zone... Slowing down for every flake they see headin' for their vehicle. LOL PFDAN................................. Drk^Angel |

Title: Re: Winter Weather Post by Jabeen on Dec 5th, 2002, 10:56am I'm in New Jersey and it's mounting up fast here-my husband is stranded in Las Vegas! Maybe he can win some money waiting for the plane to take off? I leave Sat. for 3 weeks in Hawaii and not a minute too soon! I love to ski, but I hate the snow on the roads and my driveway. |

What the hell does "No turn on red mean" anyway? We mistake route numbers for speed l9imits alot. Route 128 is a blast! |

There's not as much snow on the ground as on the East coast, but still enought to make people in Chicagoland forget how to drive (as if.....). It's frikkin COLD man. Title: Re: Winter Weather Post by 7yrscronic on Dec 5th, 2002, 1:55pm As a photographer in MA, The snow brings many picture oppertunities, landscapes and such. But this winter I'm putting together a collage. I'm taking pictures of every SUV I see off the side of the road, rolled over, on top of other vehicles...etc. Hopefully I'll get a few with the soccer moms face "but it's an SUV, I'm supposed to be able to drive normally in bad weather." SUV's are only good in snow if you know how to drive them. But again, great for a photographer. Gotta go for a drive! And yes, Rt 128 is a blast! |

Title: Re: Winter Weather Post by catlind on Dec 6th, 2002, 10:12pm I gotta laugh at everyone who's talking about 4 or 8 inches of snow hehe. We don't even worry here until we are going to get over 6" and generally don't even consider stocking up on stuff until we know we are going to get more than 5 feet in 24 hours. Got a couple feet out in the front yard right now, had 3 inches today, wasn't even worth the snowblower....just a quick shovel and you're done hehe. I'm so used to seeing snow banks that are higher than those folks SUV's that unless there's ice involved the snow is just another day in upstate NY :) Kids love it, dog loves it, cats disappear in it. I like snow but I wouldn't want to live up there in the snow belt. I bet it gets to be a pain after a while. What do you get, 120" a season on average? PJB Charlie, You live near Buffalo and you don't have a blower? What did you get last week 3 feet? BtC |
||
Title: Re: Winter Weather Post by catlind on Dec 7th, 2002, 10:12am Actually PJ our average for a winter is 150" :) And yes Charlie we have snowblowers :P The military gave the option of either providing one lawn mower per building or one snowblower per building....it doesn't take much IQ to figure out which to pick up here hehe. Of course, most of them don't work, they are from the military after all ;) Mine does though, and I'm quite proficient with one hehe. I can even do snow sculptures with it when I remember to let off the handle when it's in reverse...nothing like backing yourself into a 5 foot bank of snow with a snowblower hehe Cat |
||
Title: Re: Winter Weather Post by pjbgravely on Dec 7th, 2002, 11:36am Wow 150", You must be close to Boonville then. I heard peaple in my area go up there to snowmobile in June. PJB |

Title: Re: Winter Weather Post by catlind on Dec 7th, 2002, 11:50am Yup Boonville is about 30-40 min. drive from us :) I remember when I first found it on the map, I laughed hysterically, thinking they actually have a place called boonville up here...and a place called hillbilly heaven. It's almost too hard to believe, but it's true!!! LOL Cat |

Title: Re: Winter Weather Post by Charlie on Dec 7th, 2002, 3:37pm Well Kids....We have about 150" a year in a normal winter. My preacher neighbor bought a new snowblower every year. Mechanical he is not, and he let me use his because I kept it running. Now he no longer has one and the old one is kaput. Fortunately, my driveway is no more that 30 feet and I don't drive. Well it's not at all fortunate....Anyway, unless we get a 2 footer, it isn't a problem. I used to live 14 miles south of Boonville, in Utica. We used to go there all the time to drink and shoot pool. It never occurred to me that it was a strange name. If you want strange, try the suburb of Buffalo called Cheektowaga......All done, Charlie |

Of course when my daughter decided to stick her tongue to the bus stop metal on Tuesday when it was -6 out I was a real unhappy camper. She tore off the entire top layer of skin....why do kids do that? Even though we parents tell them not to do it, because we did it, and we KNOW what happens, why do they do it too??
