I have 600 ft of fence. I am going to put the poles 6 ft apart. I would need a 100 poles right? Help someone tell me if I am right those damn poles cost $3 each LOL!

No, you'll need 101.
The 1 extra is the first one in the ground that you start counting from. That is if the fence is a complete circle with only one opening.
You have to take into account how many gates you want, how wide they will be and then figure how many post you'll need.
It would be easier to get a nasty German Sheppard on a long chain.

$303 for the poles and $300 for the fence.
$40 plus gas to rent a truck for two hours.
This new home may break me, and my back.

Buddy is working two jobs now he is only off on Sundays and it says Rain Sunday, it will rain to morrow and be cold as a witches tit Thursday so me and hopefully my hotflases will have to put that fence up the best I can. Deveny is home now durning the day she works nights so she can watch the baby. She gets off at 1 am so she gets enough sleep. I will spend tomorrow buying the stuff and taking it to the land then Thursday put it up.
Now I could get Jane and Judy and Mia to help me put it up LOL!!!!

What knot4 said, I think. Anyway 8' post spacing is the standard down in Oklahoma for a wooden 4 x 4 post 3 rail fence with wooden pickets. We do get a slight wind down here from time to time. :)

Jeez, Elaine - I'm disappointed in ya. I thought us Twisted Sisters thought alike. Honey, I got two words for you:

CHICKEN WIRE

It's not as if your dogs are 100 pounders that need an 8 foot fence. I think one of your little chi-hoo-a-hoo-a's might be able to squeeze thru the little squares in the wire, but if he does, good for him. He'll enjoy that so much, he'll do it again, to get back in. ;) Why would ANY of your pets WANT to leave, Elaine? You treat them better than most folks treat their kids!

Cats can navigate any fence you put up (unless you also put a roof on the fence), so it's just the dogs you have to worry about. What about those corkscrew dealies that you screw into the ground and you can picket them, like a horse? You could also tie one end of their leash to a brick. Or...here's another thought. Teach them to STAY.

Sounds like 301 fence posts might be a lil too much work, even for your hot flash energy bursts. Steve's right though - let Buddy figure this shit out. Me, I'd be using chicken wire and duct tape. I think you should go on strike until someone agrees with this idea.

only one teeny problem with the duct tape and chicken wire (although I love the idea, it's what I'd do) is that Elaine isn't trying to keep her kids IN...she's trying to keep the neighbors pitbulls OUT :)

Its about as funny as me calling Jonny and asking if I had reached Direct TV yesterday!
I am out the door taking devenys car to shop then going to get the fence by the way Margi it is welding wire I am getting ! I am trying to keep some big pitbulls out away from my little dogs, don't want them to be their lunch. My cats stay inside!

What kind of fence are you putting up?
Cyclone, 2 or 3 rail dog ear, 4', 6', number and size of gates, average wind speed?

Depending on the above answers you could go as far as 10 ft. I used to build fences on the side for extra $.

Hey Elaine...I'm with echo, what kind of fence are you putting up. Down here, we use 5 strand barb wire w/T-posts or a pipe fence. If you go with barb wire, I have 2 boys who have plenty of experience...I just sit in the truck and point. When the kids get to the age they can build fence it's great!

I must of forgot to sign out this morning. I am home no fence put up yet they were putting up electric poles and my yard was blocked. Tomany people there. Any way It looks like I will be working tomorrow and Saturday.

Including lawyers is potentially an insult to the others.

I've got it you, need to have 3 circles of coiled barbed wire, cos even Steve Mcqueen couldn't get over that, and I haven't seen many Rottweilers on motorbikes lately. 8)
