Title: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I need! Post by Elaine on Dec 3rd, 2002, 7:45pm I have 600 ft of fence. I am going to put the poles 6 ft apart. I would need a 100 poles right? Help someone tell me if I am right those damn poles cost $3 each LOL! |

Title: Re: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I ne Post by BobG on Dec 3rd, 2002, 7:49pm No, you'll need 101. The 1 extra is the first one in the ground that you start counting from. That is if the fence is a complete circle with only one opening. You have to take into account how many gates you want, how wide they will be and then figure how many post you'll need. It would be easier to get a nasty German Sheppard on a long chain. |

Title: Re: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I ne Post by Not4Hire on Dec 3rd, 2002, 9:10pm Elaine sister....damn ...I thought this was gonna be an EASY question...but when I analyzed it...I realized that probably Ted would say that the fence was "just an example of how wimmen conspire to put constraints on our (men! ;D ) freedoms" ...and jonny would say that..."HIS *post* was BIGGER than don's"...... and then RevdeFord would say that ..."a hole of that magnitude must have Farts which his congregation would find objectionable"..... and then Slammy would reply that ".....those Lips, Those EYES!!!!!"....(WTF?) .....followed by Catlind and Oring tellin' HIM to STUFFIT ...and then charlie would chime in with another "Trancendental Appendage Post"....... and then Drk^ would get pissed and leave for about a nanosecond........ and then maybe, *echo* would want to know if there was HAIR on the fence and how that would seem to be funny...... then Mast and Linda Howell would come up with a WestCoast reference that NOfuckinBody will understand......and SomesmellyWino would add a picture about "Flutes an' How These References Are WAAAAAY Over YeR Head (ya prole ya!)...... and on TOP of All THAT Stuff........Den(rumpledforeskin) would bring us back to GroundZero by tellin Ya .... ...(I'm still talkin' to YOU Elaine) .... ...that Fences Are just Existential Paradigms and you should Resist the Influence of Post-Psychedelic Chromosomal Dysfunctionalism........ and then Margi will tell ya to let BUDDY figger this shit out.....and she will be RIGHT!.... .....whoa!....... if I have offended ANY of yez (and I only hit the one's I could remember with *this* RAMBLE).......y'all can KissMyASS!!!!!..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ....o yeah, before I forget: the fence I have 'round MY compound is designed to keep me IN....not to keep y'all OUT.....so come on OVER and we'll discuss 6 foot spacing and the best way to attach barbed wire to Rabid Rottweilers' Collars for the pupose of dealing with Elavil-crazed Italians............. WTF? |

Title: Re: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I ne Post by forgetfulnot on Dec 3rd, 2002, 9:33pm What knot4 said, I think. Anyway 8' post spacing is the standard down in Oklahoma for a wooden 4 x 4 post 3 rail fence with wooden pickets. We do get a slight wind down here from time to time. :) Lee |

Title: Re: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I ne Post by Margi on Dec 3rd, 2002, 9:38pm Jeez, Elaine - I'm disappointed in ya. I thought us Twisted Sisters thought alike. Honey, I got two words for you: CHICKEN WIRE It's not as if your dogs are 100 pounders that need an 8 foot fence. I think one of your little chi-hoo-a-hoo-a's might be able to squeeze thru the little squares in the wire, but if he does, good for him. He'll enjoy that so much, he'll do it again, to get back in. ;) Why would ANY of your pets WANT to leave, Elaine? You treat them better than most folks treat their kids! Cats can navigate any fence you put up (unless you also put a roof on the fence), so it's just the dogs you have to worry about. What about those corkscrew dealies that you screw into the ground and you can picket them, like a horse? You could also tie one end of their leash to a brick. Or...here's another thought. Teach them to STAY. Sounds like 301 fence posts might be a lil too much work, even for your hot flash energy bursts. Steve's right though - let Buddy figure this shit out. Me, I'd be using chicken wire and duct tape. I think you should go on strike until someone agrees with this idea. |

Title: Re: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I ne Post by BobG on Dec 3rd, 2002, 9:45pm DUCT TAPE ! :D Spoken like a true man..........way to go Margi ;) |

Title: Re: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I ne Post by Mastifflvr28 on Dec 3rd, 2002, 9:56pm only one teeny problem with the duct tape and chicken wire (although I love the idea, it's what I'd do) is that Elaine isn't trying to keep her kids IN...she's trying to keep the neighbors pitbulls OUT :) Mast |

Title: Re: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I ne Post by echo on Dec 4th, 2002, 8:19am What kind of fence are you putting up? Cyclone, 2 or 3 rail dog ear, 4', 6', number and size of gates, average wind speed? Depending on the above answers you could go as far as 10 ft. I used to build fences on the side for extra $. |

Title: Re: I am putting up a fence and not sure what I ne Post by Roxy on Dec 4th, 2002, 11:33am Hey Elaine...I'm with echo, what kind of fence are you putting up. Down here, we use 5 strand barb wire w/T-posts or a pipe fence. If you go with barb wire, I have 2 boys who have plenty of experience...I just sit in the truck and point. When the kids get to the age they can build fence it's great! Roxy |
