Title: Greetings! (and question re. episodic - chronic) Post by StanTheMan on Dec 2nd, 2002, 10:17am Greetings to all! Hope everyone had a "thankful" Thanksgiving holiday. I'm still PF (thank you Lord!) and praying I'll at least have my "typical" 18 - 24 month remission. I'm sure this question has been asked before about "going chronic", but I could not find the answer with old posts: I've read that (statistically) that the older you are when you have your first cycle, the greater the chances of "going chronic". I was 32 when it all started, so I guess I'm a higher risk. I'm really trying NOT to really worry about it happening, but the concern DOES cross my mind from time to time, of course. So here's the question..... If you go chronic, does it usually happen gradually (cycles start getting closer together) or does it usually happen without any warning? Or is there no "typical" pattern? I suspect there's no pattern (I know how unpredictable the beast is!) Thanks in advance for the feedback. Hugs and prayer for PFDAN to all on the MB. StanTheMan :) |

Title: Re: Greetings! (and question re. episodic - chroni Post by Ted on Dec 2nd, 2002, 1:36pm My first two years I'd get 2 cycles per year. The next 14 years I'd get only 2-6 weeks remission between cycles that would last, on average, a month. So not technically chronic. Now I've been technically chronic for the past 4 years. Don't know if this helps you, but there it is. |

Title: Re: Greetings! (and question re. episodic - chroni Post by eyes_afire on Dec 2nd, 2002, 6:06pm Hi Stan, I don't really have a definitive answer for you. I can only talk from experience. I started getting CH around the age of 24 or 25... I'm now 31. Usually my cycles would last for 6 months with a 6 month break between cycles. Then, my most recent cycle started in September 2001 (so now it's a 14 month cycle, technically chronic). Good news: My last CH was about a month ago. Bad news: but my shadows STILL persist ??? ??? ??? |

Title: Re: Greetings! (and question re. episodic - chroni Post by Jarvis on Dec 2nd, 2002, 8:55pm Hi stan. I go with the no predictable plan. Mine began at 19, was episodic the first few years 3-4 months in cycle with a break for 13 months each time. then went a couple years chronic then back to episodic a few more years then chronic big time for 3 years then episodic again then an 18 month cycle and then I thought I was all done with an allmost 3 year break. Now the guestion is after 3.5 months will I be ? ? ? . I am now 45 and am planning that this will be my last cycle ever forever. At least thats "my" plan. Wishing all PFDAN |

Title: Re: Greetings! (and question re. episodic - chroni Post by Jabeen on Dec 2nd, 2002, 9:06pm For me I was 45 when I got my first attack. By the time I found out what I had and found a treatment, I had them constantly for almost a year. Then they were gone for 5 years and returned a few months ago. So I pray the pattern doesn't intensify-after 5 years I thought maybe I would be really lucky and never see them again...no such luck. The good news is that I resumed my meds from last time and they are under control-infrequent and never over a 4 or so. I was older than you when they started and so far I am still OK-Unfortunately there are no givens with this thing. |
