Title: What’s your favorite Cluster Headache song?
Post by SommelierCH on Dec 1st, 2002, 6:15am
When I get the Big One, I’m very different from the rest of you kids, I can’t frigging move!!! I also, can’t stand light or noise. So, I tie a towel around my eyes, I lie down and wait. But, when I get a Kip 3-6, I put on this song from the: 4 NON BLONDES, CD (Bigger, Better, Faster, More!) called “What’s Up” and I stomp around screeching to these, oh so apropos, lyrics (condensed, so that the toofless wonder will eat it):

What's up

25 years of my life and still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this
Brotherhood of man
For whatever that means
So I cry somethimes when I'm lying in bed
To get it all out what's in my head
Then I start feeling a little peculiar
So I wake in the morning and I step
Outside I take deep breath
I get real high
Then I scream from the top of my lungs
What's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
And I try, oh my God do I try
I try all the time
In this institution
And I pray, oh my God do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution
So I cry sometimes when I'm lying in my bed
To get it all out what's in my head
Then I start feeling a little peculiar
So I wake in the morning and I step outside
I take a deep breaththen I get real high
Then I scream from the top of my lungs
What's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
25 years of my life and still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination

I lied, it's not condensed--it's CARROT/CHESTNUT-- ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

FYI, carrot/chestnut is the secret club soup.

P.S. Ned, I finally got it! Cool!

My theme song is *YOU can't always get what you want* by the Rolling Stones. But when I am getting hit, it's * Saturday Nights Allright for Fighting by Elton John. And after the fight is over it's *Purple Haze* by Jimi Hendrix...*duh*

As far as the CH.com site goes, I have always thought this song would be a most appropriate theme song.

Lean On Me  by Bill Withers.

I think for a CH description song.......this one seems to fit.

Bang Your Head  by Quiet Riot.
http://home.online.no/~josandoe/smash.gif(Thanks for letting me "borrow" your icon Mark C.)

My favorite? Has to be.......

Scream
by The Young Dubliners.

Of course, can't leave out.......

King Of Pain
by The Police.    ;)

Good thread, should spark lots of interest & replies.

By the way, "What's Up" is a good choice too.

Thanks for the thread.   :)

Louis Armstrong singing "Scream a Little Scream"

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I come for you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore trees
Scream a little scream of me

Say nighty-night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Scream a little scream of me

Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your eye
I'm longin' to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this

Sweet screams while my claws find you
Sweet screams that leave all worries inside you
But in your screams whatever they be
Scream a little scream of me

(instrumental break)

Throwing-stars shining up inside you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I come for you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore trees
Scream a little scream of me

Sweet screams while my claws find you
Sweet screams that leave all worries inside you
But in your screams whatever they be
Scream a little scream of me

Yes, scream a little scream of me

Knee jerk reaction... I need something that gives me will to survive... something that kicks ass (although I don't listen to music during CH)... therefore, a double shot from Manowar (shortened due to length):

Blood Of My Enemies (an excerpt)

Three sons have I, and they
Ride by my side. - The fierce,
The black, and the wicked are
their names - we ride down my
enemies on their half-hearted flight.
No voice of mercy - no evangels of light.

Strong winds - magic mist
To Asgard the Valkries fly
High overhead - they carry the dead
Where the blood of my enemy lies.

Kill With Power (an excerpt)

Run berserk - spreading fear and pain.
Black shield and weapons, black our chain.
None can harm us - not thier fire -
Iron or steel - for we have the
Will to power - with power we will
Kill.

Kill with power - die die
Kill with power - die die

Never during....who else but the great Jimmy Buffett

Pacing The Cage

Sunset is an angel weeping
Holding out a bloody sword
No matter how I squint I cannot
Make out what it's pointing toward
Sometimes you feel like you've lived too long
Days drip slowly on the page
And You catch yourself
Pacing the cage

I've proven who I am so many times
The magnetic strip's worn thin
And each time I was someone else
And everyone was taken in
Powers chatter in high places
Stir up eddies in the dust of rage
Set me to pacing the cage

I never knew what you all wanted
So I gave you everything
All that I could pillage
All the spells that I could sing
It's as if the thing were written
In the constitution of the age
Sooner or later you'll wind up
Pacing the cage

Sometimes the best map will not guide you
You can't see what's round the bend
Sometimes the road leads through dark places
Sometimes the darkness is your friend
Today these eyes scan bleached-out land
For the coming of the outbound stage
Pacing the cage

Pacing the cage

Text:
Demon (song)

Now again, the pain in my eye
no one can help me on this side
I start to bang, oh God, I dread
the hated Demon won’t leave my head

Oh please now leave me alone,
I cannot deal with anyone
Oh please don’t leave me alone
The Demon may return to my home

The battle leaves me a wounded man
I am scarred from fighting as hard as I can.
Please all my friends the Clusterheads
Help me as usual through our threads.

Amazing that someone across the globe
Can help you more than one at home
Amaze me again you cluster friends
Family in my heart until the end

Now, when the Demon reaches height
We are a million, together we fight
A unite family of Clusterheads
Together to win from this blight

This is for all of you, my friends
To each other we give our helping hands
It may be a post, or an E-mail we do
To valiantly say, my friend, I ”feel like you“

This is just for you, my brave friends
In both pain and joy,  you are in my heart
This is just for you, my brave friends
In pain and joy  you are all in my heart

Autumn Leaves (song)

It’s so hard on this blue hill
it’s so hard in this black night
A lot harder for my head
these heavy shadows on me.

It’s so hard on this blue hill
it’s so hard in this black night
Feelin’ round the living life
It’s so hard in this strange autumn full of leaves

Shake the big pain saucer
full of cluster bouts
And all along the night
those cries with me.

‘T was a year full of pain
I’m expecting a worse end
now this pain is too hard for me
oh baby please help me.

If my tears are rain for me
if my cries are only wind
If my heart explodes now
for this stranger in my head

Oh God I feel me alone
Oh friends can you help me
I often try to go home
and home is far from me
…………….
It’s so nice on this blue hill
it’s so nice in this black night
Head is free from pain now
the shadows disappeared

It’s so nice on this blue hill
it’s so nice in this black night
I feel me part of living life
It’s so nice in this strange autumn full of leaves

;D

ROSIE (by Jackson Browne & Donald Miller)

She was standing at the load-in
When the trucks rolled up
She was sniffing all around
Like a half grown female pup
She wasn't hard to talk to
Looked like she had nowhere to go
So I gave her my pass
So she could get in and see the show

Well I sat her down right next to me
And I got her a beer
While I mixed that sound on stage
So the band could hear
The more I watched her watch them play
The less I could think of to say
And when they walked off stage
The drummer swept that girl away

But Rosie you're all right -- you wear my ring
When you hold me tight -- Rosie that's my thing
When you turn out the light -- I've got to hand it to me
Looks like it's me and you again tonight Rosie

Well I guess I might have known from the start
She'd come for a star
Might have told my imagination not to run too far
Of all the times that I've been burned
By now you'd think I'd have learned
That it's who you look like
Not who you are

But Rosie you're all right -- you wear my ring
When you hold me tight -- Rosie that's my thing
When you turn out the light -- I've got to hand it to me
Looks like it's me and you again tonight Rosie

Metallica - Fade To Black

Life it seems will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things not what they use to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost this cant be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me but now he is gone

Hmmm...during an attack, Creed...One Last Breath
AFter an attack, Wilson Philips .. Hold On

Please come now I think I'm falling
I'm holding to all I think is safe
It seems I found the road to nowhere
And I'm trying to escape
I yelled back when I heard thunder
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say
Let me say

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

I'm looking down now that it's over
Reflecting on all of my mistakes
I thought I found the road to somewhere
Somewhere in His grace
I cried out heaven save me
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say
Let me say

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

Sad eyes follow me
But I still believe there's somthing left for me
So please come stay with me
'Cause I still believe there's something left for you and me
For you and me
For you and me

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking

Wilson Philips:  Hold On

I know this pain
Why do lock yourself up in these chains?
No one Can change your life except for you
Don't ever let anyone step all over you
Just open your heart and your mind
Is it really fair to feel this way inside?
Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day

You could sustain
Or are you comfortable with the pain?
You've got no one to blame for your unhappiness
You got yourself into your own mess
Lettin' your worries pass you by
Don't you think it's worth your time
To change your mind?

Repeat Chorus

Breakown/Chorus

Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day, Yeah
If you hold on
If you hold on
Mmm... If you hold on baby
Won't you tell me now
Hold on for one more day 'Cause
It's gonna go your way
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day, Yeah
Can't you change it this time

Make up your mind
Hold on Hold on
baby hold on... Turn around, Just turn around baby
Hold on for one more day, Cause
It's gonna go your way...

OUCH!

You have stomped on my most-frayed nerve.  One of the things I hate most when I get an attack going that's an 8 or better is that the last song I was listening to gets stuck in my head and won't quit until the headache quits.  My very worst nightmare-aches usually include some horrible thing like the SpongeBob theme song over and over and over and over again while I huff my oxygen and do my imitrex and maybe if it's a full-blown 10 I do all that while standing in a scalding hot shower or else with my head stuck in a freezer.

Seriously, when the beast starts to claw, I try my best to get some instrumental jazz going (Brubeck is my favorite) or else some spacey new-age (Tangerine Dream or Ray Lynch, any cut) so I won't be stuck with something inane running thru my brain while the pain eats away.

I mean, I even LIKE the SpongeBob theme song, and I REALLY like most of what Aerosmith does, but each has its time and place -- away from my cluster attacks.

If I had to pick one to shout, it would be "Tell Me What It Takes To Let You Go" by Aerosmith.

Tell me how the pain's supposed to go--o---oooo....

Peace, love, and PFD's!

Old Dave

Might as well post the lyrics. Metallica, One.
I don't think I could actually listen to this while having an attack, but it certainly puts me "in the mood".

A whole lot of perfectly good anger in this piece.

I Can't Remember Anything
Can't Tell If this Is True or Dream
Deep down Inside I Feel to Scream
this Terrible Silence Stops Me

Now That the War Is Through with Me
I'm Waking up I Can Not See
That There Is Not Much Left of Me
Nothing Is Real but Pain Now

Hold My Breath as I Wish for Death
Oh Please God,wake Me

Back in the Womb its Much Too Real
in Pumps Life That I must Feel
but Can't Look Forward to Reveal
Look to the Time When I'll Live

Fed Through the Tube That Sticks in Me
Just like a Wartime Novelty
Tied to Machines That Make Me Be
Cut this Life off from Me

Hold My Breath as I Wish for Death
Oh Please God,wake Me
Now the World Is Gone I'm Just One
Oh God,help Me Hold My Breath as I Wish for Death
Oh Please God Help Me

Darkness Imprisoning Me
All That I See
Absolute Horror
I Cannot Live
I Cannot Die
Trapped in Myself
Body My Holding Cell

Landmine Has Taken My Sight
Taken My Speech
Taken My Hearing
Taken My Arms
Taken My Legs
Taken My Soul
Left Me with Life in Hell

I'm with Elaine!!

HYMNS!

There are also a number of Psalms that are great to meditate on during a CH!

Now, some of you might say "The 23rd Psalm isn't a SONG!"

*bzzzt!*  WRONG!  All the Psalms were originally penned to be sung!  Granted, we don't have the original music (wouldn't that be cool!), but they were (and still are) songs!

Psalm 116 (my personal favorite) is a beautiful reflection of gratitude to God for rescuing one from the pit of dispair.

Regards to all!

Stan"Keepin' a Psalm in my heart" TheMan

BTW:  Carly Simon's song cracks me up -- When do ANY of us (especially us clusterheads) have  TIME for PAIN!  LOL!

"Gee honey, the show doesn't start until eight -- do ya think we have time for a migraine?"

I remember years and years ago, the Minister at my grandmothers church, telling a funny story during his sermon: A minister was greeting his congregation as they were leaving and a little 6 yr. old boy told him that the best part of the day was when everyone was singing. The minister asked him, “What was your favorite hymn”, and the boy replied, “The one about the bear who couldn’t see very well”. “The bear…?” “Yea, you know.. ‘Gladly, the cross-eyed bear’”.

I listen to music when dancing with the beast if it is on, blast so that my cries can be covered...strange...guess I am trying to control the dance...shame it doesnt work though

Anyways, I agree with Catlind that "One last Breath" by Creed is great during one. Afterwards, anytime I like..

Bob Dylan's "Blowin' In the Wind"

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

I listen to this song between attacks. I have never had the opportunity to listen to music during a CH but if I did it would probably be death metal.
I have changed the words a little to make it fit my situation.
"I still believe" words and music by Michael Been and J. Goodwin
Performed by Russ Taft

I've been in a cave, for forty days,
With only a spark to light my way.
I want to give up, I want to give in,
this is our crime, this is our sin.
But I still believe, I still believe,
Through the pain, and through the grief,
through the lies, and through the storms,
through the cries, and though the wars,
I still believe.

Flat on my back, out at sea,
hope these waves don't cover me.
I'm turned and tossed, by the waves,
when darkness comes, I feel the grave.
But I still believe, I still believe,
Through the cold, and through the heat,
through the rain, and through the tears,
through the screams, and though the cheers.
I still believe.

The beast can't take that away from me.

I'll march this road, I'll climb this hill,
upon my knees if I have to.
I'll take my place upon this pain,
I'll wait till the end of time for You.
For people like us, in places like this,
we need all the hope that we can get.
I still believe, I still believe,
Through the shame, and though the grief,
through the headache, and through the tears,
through the waiting, and through the years,
I still believe, I must believe.

Actually, during the attacks the only thing that can calm me down is listening to Praise & Worship music.

But "Weathered" by Creed reminds me most of our struggle:

I lie awake on a long, dark night
I can't seem to tame my mind
Slings and arrows are killing me inside
Maybe I can't accept the life that's mine
No I can't accept the life that's mine

Simple living is my desperate cry
Been trading live with indifference yeah it suits me just fine
I try to hold on but I'm calloused to the bone
Maybe that's why I feel alone
Maybe that's why I feel alone

Me..I'm rusted and weathered
Barely holding together
I'm covered with skin that peels and it just won't heal

The sun shines and I can't avoid the light
I think I'm holding on to life too tight
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
Sometimes I feel like giving up
Sometimes I feel like giving up

Me...I'm rusted and weathered
Barely holding together
I'm covered with skin that peels and it just won't heal

The day reminds me of you
The night hides your truth
The earth is a voice
Speaking to you
Take all this pride
And leave it behind
Because one day it ends
One day we die
Believe what you will
That is your right
But I choose to fight
So I choose to fight
To fight

Rockapella always helps me to feel a bit better.  (Not clever...just the facts!)

There's a verse from one of their songs that fits how I feel at times, though, especially when people give that old line that "I've had a headache like that before."  >:(

"You cannot know how this feels...Don't tell me you do."

My taste in music is very varied (opera only being my one true hate!!) but at heart I'm a Rock Chick...

For 17yrs I have 'worshipped' Ozzy Osbourne and I turn to him more than most, but it is one of his solo tunes on the 'No More Tears' album that helps more than any other.
The track is called "Zombie Stomp" and it has great drumming in it that the beast tunes into and gets a groove with, bringing out the true 'head-banger' in me...!!! But when the worst is over and I need something a lot more chilled goin on then a firm favourite is the 'Big Calm' album by Morcheeba, which is full of delicate tunes and the singer has a beautiful voice that I can drift with.

Nice to know that others picked Rock/Metal tunes too, was a bit worried that I might be the only one!!

Hey SoSo, no need to worry about being the only metalhead clusterhead.  Zombie Stomp is good.  True metal is the ultimate form of protest music.  Ever hear of the bands Edge Of Sanity?  Arch Enemy?  Deadly stuff.
Rock on.

I have never listened to music when in the throes of an attack.  Except for my very personal chant of "Go away you fucking bastard" as I pace around the house holding my head.   >:(  However, I do start to feel down after a while, as I'm sure most of you do too.  So I have my very own personal "theme song" a la Ally Macbeal!  As I drive myself to work, I blast a Bon Jovi song.  Here's the refrain...it helps cheer me up.

Hey man I'm alive
I'm taking each day and night at a time
Yeah I'm down, but I know I'll survive
I say hey man
Going to live my life
like I ain't got nothing but this roll of the dice
I'm feeling like a Monday
but someday I'll be saturday night.

hugs
Ann

Cerebus's Top five countown:
and not necessarily in this order....
1. Rolling Stones "cant you hear me knockin"
2. Widespread panic "Til the Medicine takes"
3. 3 Doors down "Duck and Run"
4. Stone Sour " Bother"
5. Pink Floyd "Brain Damage"
Heck....I'm gonna add just one more because it is so appropriate.....Blue Oyster Cult "Veteran of the Psychic Wars"
self explanitory ;)

If you're going to bang your head...bang it good.

I always put on Linkin Park, well, at least if it's not in the middle of the night. ;D

"Crawling"

Crawling in my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming, confusing
This lack of self control I fear is never ending
Controlling

I can't seem
To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(Without a sense of confidence I’m convinced that there’s just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
So insecure

Chorus

Discomfort, endlessly has pulled itself upon me
Distracting, reacting
Against my will I stand beside my own reflection
It's haunting how I can't seem...

To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(Without a sense of confidence I’m convinced that there’s just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
So insecure

Chorus (Repeat until end)

There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming, confusing
This lack of self control I fear is never ending
Controlling (Whispered during chorus)

of the night.

A little song about my headache
and my thankful to this Canadian artist named
Geddy Lee :

One Man Standing On The Plains Of Abraham
Watching A Damaged Sunrise
One Man Standing Near The Edge
Of A Quiet Breakdown

I Watch The Sea
It Helps To Anchor Me
I Watch The Sea
It Helps To Anchor Me

Once You Start Hiding
You Keep On Hiding
Till Your Paranoia Calms Down
Once You Start Watching
You Keep On Watching
Till You’re Tied Up And You’re Spellbound

Just Between The Ice Ages Anyway
I Want To Talk But I Haven’t Got
Too Much To Say
I Don't Mean To Be So Nihilistic
Forgive Me If I Seem To Be Too Realistic

Once You Start Running
You Keep On Running
Till Your Muscles Start To Breakdown
Once You Start Falling
You Keep On Falling
Till You Hit The Cold. Cold Ground

I Watch T.v.
What Do You Want From Me
I Watch T.v.
What Do You Want From Me

Just Between The Ice Ages Anyway
I Want To Talk But I Haven’t Got
Enough To Say
I Don't Mean To Be So Nihilistic
Forgive Me If I Seem To Be Too Realistic

Once You Start Hiding
You Keep On Hiding
Till You Feel You're Safe And Sound
Once You Start Watching
You Keep On Watching
Till You're Tied Up And You're Spellbound

I Watch The Sea
It Helps To Anchor Me
I Watch The Sea
I Saw It On T.v
