Title: Need Imitrex Help
Post by cbolony on Nov 26th, 2002, 2:05pm
Has anybody used the Imitrex Vial 6mgs just
wondering once you open the vial and take out
3mgs how long will the other 3mgs last in the bottle.
I called Glaxo who makes the Imitrex they told me
they don,t know I think you have to take the 6mgs
and even my Pharmacy did no know.I use the statdose
right now and take it apart and inject 3mgs.With the
vail and needles will make it a little easy to use.
Thank You

Not sure but I have been told by long time users to keep it in the fridge and it will keep its strength longer.

I'm not sure that I have the answer either, but I can tell you that I keep "ready-made" syringes of DHE in my fridge....they came from the vials.

Please let us all know when you do find out the accurate information....

Thanks, NotH20

GSK won't normally support breaking up a dose of Imitrex, because it contains no preservatives, so it runs a high risk of contamination after opening (at least that's what GSK normally says).  Using a sterilized needle, and keeping the bottle clean, I would assume that it'd last long enough to last 'til your next attack, but I probably wouldn't risk keepin' an open vial between cycles.

I have been using the vials for awhile and never had a problem with them.   B.T.W. 2-mg. does the trick. The best syringes for it are the "insulin U-100". As far as knowing how long they will last, that i dont know as i usually finish the vial within a day.I know in the past,i had a bunch of box's of the self injectors that expired,
spoke with my doc and 2-seperate pharmacist ( reg. if it was safe to use ) they all told me there should not be a problem ( and they were right = LOL). As far as refrigeration, that is not a good idea ( 59-86 farenheight)
is rec. the refridge would be a little too cold LOL. Good luck and PFDAN to you.                          Lenny

Empty the bottle.

Fill up (3) 2mg syringes, cap them and put them away for use later.
