Title: The price of imitrex
Post by Ann on Nov 22nd, 2002, 5:36pm
Hey guys!

To all those using imitrex injections....has the price gone up?  I went to my drugstore today to get my prescription filled and for some reason I ended up paying 27 dollars more than usual.  I went just last week and the price was 241.00 for 6 statdoses.  Today 268.00 for the same thing.  Has anyone else been a victim to this price hike or is my drugstore screwing me over?  Maybe it's just here in Canada?   ???  Had I known I would have stocked up!!  The bastards!

Hope you guys are doing well
Ann

Sounds cheap to me. Here in good ole Knoxville Tennessee at my local Walgreens 2 STATdose refills are $130.00. Thats $65.00 per 6mg dose, ouch is right.
Good luck Ann,
Mark

I'm guessing that is in Canadian dollars ;)

you are getting a good deal in my opinion, of course its all relative. My injections are similar in cost to Marc's price. My refills are $150.00 American for two 6mg doses.
Needless to say I Really, Really, appreciate my insurance.

What happened to Canadian National Health Care? Don't they pay for your Meds?

My pharmacy in Ohio charges $137.00 per box. (2 6mg injections)  I started using it in 1995........then it was only $75.00 per box...............I would have thought the price would go down not UP!!! (Silly me!)

Ann, I'm sure you've seen the imitrex tip on the left that suggests how to make your imitrex injections supply last a bit longer, I have used that suggestion during very bad times not only because of the amount were limited to a day but for helping me out in the cost. This may help.

Try using 2 - mg. ( works just as well as 6 mg. ). Go to
www.drugstore.com - they have it  for  $ 100.37 per box. PFDAN to all !!!!!                   Lenny

Thanks for the replies guys!  I guess I'm whining for nothing!  I hadn't realized how steep imitrex was in the States.  Sheesh...glad I live here then!

I was just blown away that the price would go up by so much without any warning.  I hope you guys don't live a price hike either!

As for the tip, I've been there and done that.  It didn't always work for me so I just use the whole 6 mg's.  I know I will get relief...even if sometimes it takes a little longer than other times.
To answer the question about Canadian medicare system, yes indeed I have insurance that pays for my meds.  Up until 3 or 4 weeks ago, it paid for 80% of the cost.  Since I've been buying way more meds than usual this year, my insurance now pays 100%.  That doesn't mean that the price hike doesn't piss me off though!  In January, I'll be back to paying 80%.  hehehe  damn...hope the bastard will have moved on by then.  He's overstayed his welcome.  Kinda like that relative that just won't leave!

Take care
hugs
Ann

The price of all of the triptans is much too much..I have repeatedly tried to find out why they are so expensive..we do cut down on the cost, somewhat, by using the Imitrex vials, 0.5cc/6mg, and use 1/2 injection at a time for a cluster headache.   Lawrence Robbins M.D. http://www.headachedrugs.com

I was told that the vials were not available in Canada.  I wanted to try them last spring...but my neuro told me that we couldn't get them here.  Bummer!  ???

The very same drug, in the very same packaging, made by the very same company is sold in South Africa for approximately $30 the last time I checked.

A secret society called 'Friends of The Dead Heads' will send it on to you at zero mark up. Transport costs will be a couple of dollars. All invoices included in the package.

If you want to know how to contact 'Friends' drop me an IM. They're not that easy to find but I'll try.
