Title: Medic Alert Bracelets
Post by Charlie on Nov 18th, 2002, 5:50am
This must be old but I haven't seen it.

Since no one in the ER believes us, I would think some form of medical alert necklace or bracelet would be helpful.  How much are they now. $20 or so?

There isn't room for much but the very first word should be "Clusterheadache." You people can come up with the other stuff. When I travel, I use a necklace for my epilepsy. I also use a card that is full of detailed information. That would be even better and a doctor’s name would help too. This ought to at least give chers a fighting chance when they assume drugs are your thing.

I would have to agree with you. listing the CH, and treatment that you use would be helpful along with the doctors name and number?.

Right on, Charlie........but until one can get an official, bona-fide, commerative Medial AlertTM metal tag, how about printing out the important info on some card stock, cover it with clear contact paper, punch appropriate hole for string/necklace/bracelet/Duct tape, and wear ho when leaving the house. Sort of our own "3 X 5  Scarlet Letter".....same idea as your wallet card, only blatently BIGGER.  Can be constructed in the saftey of one's own home, would be highly visible and would contain all the info needed when you run into that special ER doctor/intern that hasn't exactly graduated in the top 95% of his/her class.................

Just a thought, albeit a rather dim one.............(as usual for me)

Excellent idea, especially after reading Jill's post about her experience in the ER on the medications board.

A medic alert of some sort would be a valuable tool.  Perhaps we can sell them through the OUCH store?

Charlie recommends medical alert bracelets, and he's a hero... I recommend tattooing "ClusterHead" across your forehead, and everyone looks at me funny... Talk about a double standard... LOL  ;D

Mr. Happy and the rest of you jerks make sense.

Since Chers don't wind up unconscious, we can make use of a good-size card full of information of all kinds.  An MD's name and number can't hurt for example.  There used to be places that laminated licenses and whatnot. How about something like that?
