Title: New to the board Post by runprincess824 on Nov 16th, 2002, 10:40am Well, I thought I should write something, since I have been reading the message board for the past few days. I am a CH sufferer. I have been for about 5 years. For about a year and half, I didn't have any headaches and I was so excited! However, a week ago, they started again and are worse than ever. I have tried Imitrex, and that was not successful, and now I am trying something called Maltox ??? I don't have it in front of me. Lastly, I just really wanted to say that I was so relieved to find this website. It was just so nice to hear others that relate to you, even though its about something we wish we didnt have to deal with. |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by brad267 on Nov 16th, 2002, 10:47am You mean Maxalt? What sort of Imitrex have you tried? Imitrex shots are the only thing that work for me. Tablets and nasal spray do nothing... Brad |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by domm on Nov 16th, 2002, 11:33am run - welcome to the board. sorry to hear you are suffering. If you've been lurking for a long time, you know the regimen. Oxygen and triptans for abortives and calcium channel blockers for preventatives. Several others from the 'berg on the board. Should be easy to hook up with them Hang in there and I hope the beast loses your address. domm |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by runprincess824 on Nov 16th, 2002, 1:49pm Yes, it is Maxalt. So far, its not doing much. I only used it three times, so I am just hoping that it needs a few doses. I have tried the Imitrex nasal spray. I have never tried the injections. I have read a lot of people saying that it worked, so I am going to ask my doctor about it, if the Maxalt doesn't start doing something! :P |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by 2late on Nov 16th, 2002, 2:31pm welcome to the board, immitrex shots is the only form that works for me. also try oxygen @ 8 to 15 litres per minuite, it also works wonders for me & it's pretty benign stuff. good luck!! ...........2late |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by Charlie on Nov 16th, 2002, 5:30pm Welcome to our little world and everyone is right. You'll likely learn more here than from your doctors. The thing about this horror is that most of us have to chase the beast around trying to better ammo. He is tricky and leads drugs down many blind alleys. Stick around, ask questions and keep in touch. Charlie |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by SommelierCH on Nov 17th, 2002, 1:57pm Sorry to have to say welcome…But welcome. Maxalt works great for me but you have to get Maxalt MLT 10 mg. the “MLT” form of Maxalt is a quick dissolving tablet that gives me relief in less than 10 min. in conjunction with oxygen therapy. The regular tablet doesn’t get into the system fast enough to take effect. Since you can only take 2 tabs max in any 24 hour period, you must save them for the Big One. Therefore you need the oxygen for all the other times when the shadows are closing in. I get hit 2 hours after I go to sleep, after 16 years of this Beast, my body wakes me up now before it’s full blown. I pop a Maxalt MLT 10 mg. then stumble out to the oxygen and suck that down until the Maxalt MLT kicks in.This combination is very effective. Hit the search button in the top right corner and do a search on oxygen, triptans and Maxalt MLT. Read every category in the left column and arm yourself with knowledge. Good luck and let us know how things are going, David |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by Heidi_B on Nov 19th, 2002, 5:32pm Hey run - I'm new to this too, and hadn't had headaches for about 18 months until this past month...I haven't had success with any abortives yet, but I have been on prednisone for 1 week (to tide me over) and that got rid of the headache RIGHT away (which i'm told is a maybe a little unusual)...only problem is you can't be on it forever...if you don't have luck with the maxalt you might try the prednisone to help ya through... heidi |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by cerebus on Nov 19th, 2002, 5:51pm Hello Princess! Welcome to the only place on earth where welcome has a dual meaning! Never tried Maxalt but I guess I'm one of the luckier ones. The drugs of my doctor's choice are Imitrex (injectible and pill) depending on severity, Oxygen (more of an element than a drug) and the preventatives Indocin and Verpamil. Nice list, but one I have grown to appreciate, give em a try if nothing else is working for ya. Captain R.D. Brown a.k.a Cerebus |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by kim on Nov 20th, 2002, 4:47pm Hi runprincess. Last cycle I used the Maxalt mlt 10mlg dissolving pill. If taken fast enough (plus I glug hot coffee with it) it can abort attacks very effectively. The trick is to get it in time (i think that's pretty much with all abortives).... The job of any triptan is basically to get those vessels to constrict. Caffeine is a natural vaso-constrictor. The maxalt with the coffee if taken in time worked pretty good for me. Lots of help here. PFDAN |

Title: Re: New to the board Post by Roxy on Nov 23rd, 2002, 12:13am Hey everyone. I'm new to the site also. I've been having these headaches for 1 year now--they just diagnosed today. Needless to say, I am anxious to see if my medication works. At this point I think a gun would work better! It is a relief just to know there are others out there...maybe I'm not crazy. I have found a few remedies over the last year that have helped, but I sure am going to try the oxygen. Roxy |

My daughter kept calling me a wimp for being in pain with the ch's. Mine are chronic...so no break. I made her read the descriptions of others headaches. She actually felt bad I think. Roxy |
