Title: EPISODIC CH PROFILE
Post by 7upatnight on Nov 16th, 2002, 1:27am
Has there been any work done to profile those who suffer from episodic CHs?  I have picked up on a few thing from posts on this site.

Please reply especially if you do not fit the following : Positive comments are appreciated.

Mind:  Active thinker, can do math in your head, can conceive proccesses in your mind, can build projects in your head.

Brain Activity:  Always thinking about your next project/action.  Foward thinking.  Has vivid dreams.

Intellect:  Respected in your field.  A go to person for ideas/counsel.  Average or better performance levels.

Character:  semi-Perfectionist, methodical, organized mentally but may not be physically.

CHs:  Typically after a change is home or work environment, major accomplishment, project completion, reduction or increase in stress environment.  Triggered by mental re-organization.

I found just this:

...The typical cluster headache sufferer is a man with rugged facial appearance and coarse-looking skin, although women and children also can get them. Many cluster patients are heavy smokers and drinkers. Quite often, the headaches occur at night.

No wonder they had a hard time diagnosing me, I am a petite teetotalling, non-smoking female.

This is tricky stuff. A lot of the profiling is skewed because northern hemisphere white males were more likely to have computers or contribute to whatever kind of iffy studies. The demographics of those on line are changing rapidly but I think we have run into cultural problems studying clusters. Evidently Asians do not respond to this kind of thing, which must be cultural It really messes up things. There are billions of them and almost none are represented.

About twice as many Chers smoke than the national average. What this means is unclear. Quitting is good for everyone but it doesn't seem to affect CH...much.  There are a lot of big tall guys with CH and there are just as many who are not.

I have strong doubts that thought processes, traits or talent have much to do with it. I can't do math without a calculator, don't consider myself all that forward thinking. I'm a sloppy perfectionist in that my house is a dump but I'm a little nuts about my desk drawers. Maybe that qualifies as just plain nuts. Respected? Hah!  My CH went into remission during the most stressful time of my life and hasn't returned.

OH....I do know the alphabet backwards... :D

Well Charlie, I think we just figured out why your CHs went away for good. You're not smart enough to have them. :-)
Hey 7-Up, you really got all this from reading and analyzing the posts here from just the episodics? I haven't seen a lot of posts on doing math in one's head, thinking about the next project, being respected in the field (or the dugout, for that matter)...
Then again, I'm chronic and about as bright as Charlie.

Personally I could care less about profiles. Working towards better treatment on the other hand.

1. has bumps on their head
2. has worn out seakers
3. yells alot
4. has holes in the walls of their domicile
5. has a compliment of weird drugs
6. will lash out if provoked

and finally

plays in golf tournaments in Canada.

Hows that for a profile ! Now click on Cluster Traits and go to profile.

Hey 7 UP... Interesting what you're trying to do, but you'll never be able to figure out WHO gets them and WHO doesn't.   Never had it - Never Will  - 7 up

(SORRY - I couldn't resist.. get it?? the old 7up commercial??)

Hello!

Well, BS*** or not, that profile fits Ramon to a TEE except for the doing math in his head.  That's the ONLY thing that isn't TOTALLY HIM!!!

One of his attacks came after he opened a restaurant in Boston - and the Sept 11 thing happened.. he was there, and got evacuated.  Was really stressed out.. didn't know how he was gonna get home (Illinois).. and as soon as he got home and relaxed a little.. KaBLAM!!!!

He smokes.. but never drinks.

He never stops thinking about projects he could do (and he never finishes them either!!! LOL   :P)  He's constantly worrying about something, is a perfectionist, and respected at his workplace.  He also has very vivid dreams.   He is also 6"2' and rugid looking.

Now,I don't know what in the HECK it has to do with CH.. but it's still interesting - TO  ME anyhow.

Of course, I like reading horoscopes and stuff too!!!  ;D

The profile notes used were examples.  Thank you all for your responses.

I wouldn't expect everyone to do math in their head, hell I can't.  But I can envision things before I actually start them.  Like assemble ingredients before or while cooking.  Take an engine apart and reassemble.  Break down a rifle in my mind. Multitask mentally.

We each might have our own capabilities at varying levels.  We each have our own saturation points.

I do have facial hair.  If that the cause, its good reason for me to shave every day.  Because of our significant physical differences, I believe my CH attacks are centered around mental events in my life.  Positive or negative changes in finances, activities, family and friends, relocations, all impacting our stress levels.  Some triggers could be physical others mental.  Could CHs be triggered by saturating or desaturating mentally?

Sarcasm is an indicator.  This is probably one of the most sarcastic sites I've ever been too, respectfully.  Don't know if its the headaches or just plain natural.  You can generally determine who suffers and who supports by the amount of or lack of sarcasm in their messages.

When I began visiting this site, I wondered if it were possible to begin an online journal to log my CH events.  It would be useful to me and perhaps Universities doing studies.  Maybe someday...Until then, I will continue to look for even the most remote similarities.

Now that might be an even better study....

sarcasm vs ch pain.  Although, me thinks the latter causes the former.

With all due respect.......whats the point?

What good can come out of it? Quite frankly I fit most of your listed characteritics but that will not abort or prevent an attack.

You wish it was only scarcasm.  :D God help you when you come here with something new.  :D

The thing is, if there were traits that were common, we'd know about it. Some of us are so weird that nothing like this would escape our cluster geeks. They would have been discovered long ago.  At one time,  tall, thin, ruddy complexioned males was what some thought was a common trait.  It just doesn't wash today. Not everyone is as good looking as I.  :o

I'm 6' 2", not heavy, horrible complexion, and spend too much time in front of this screen deleting all my nastiest stuff. It's great exercise  :)  I don't mean to sound sarcastic but skepticism is one of my hobbies. It's great fun and over the years, CH.com has been a great place to nurture this pasttime.  :D

Actually, it's good that you're thinking and trying to contribute.  Don't take all our responses too seriously. We're on your side.

Really cranky old Charlie
