My insurance was balking at my O2 prescription... Dr Kudrow sent this letter:

To Whom It May Concern:

"Slammy" has been my patient since 6/29/02. He suffers from episodic cluster headaches. This is a condition that is characterized by yearly or twice yearly episodes of daily headaches which occur typically 1-3 times per day. The headache itself is described as an excruciating, incapacitating, unilateral pain, associated with lacrimation and rhinorrea. Each attack lasts 30 to 90 minutes. They may occur during waking hours (i.e. at work or home) and frequently they occur in the middle of the night, awakening the patient from a dead sleep. Because the headache pain is so terrible, it is imperative that the patient has a reliable, acute treatment for them. Oxygen is the safest way to abort a cluster attack. it is also the most effective. The patient is instructed to inhale 100% oxygen at a rate of 7 liters per minute for 10-15 minutes per cluster attack. The patient is also treated concomitantly with prophylactic medications to prevent as many of the attacks as possible. It is proven safe and effective and a treatment of choice for cluster headaches.

Mr. "Slammy" needs oxygen for his cluster headaches.

Judging from previous posts , I knew I might regret it, but my curiousity got the best of me when I saw him referred to as Mr. Slammy in Dr. Kudrow's letter??

I did figure that was the case, but this still doesn't answer the original curiousity as to what a Slammy is?? Do I have to attain my next level to be privy to this info??? I have 3 stars now!! ;D ;D ;D

It's short for ram-slammer... Remember the study they published recently on rams, and dissecting their brains to look for defects... Well... To make a long story short, Slammy was one of the test subjects.

Yo Jabeen,

Quick story here. I was in 5th grade in Newton MA (Boston suburb) when Zoom first started. It was produced and filmed at the public television station in Boston (WGBH TV) and would be shown nationally. Before the show started, the producer came to my elementary school (his daughter was in my class) and invited the whole class to try out for this experimental tv show - so the cast of first three episodes was my entire 5th grade class. I was on a total of 5 times the first season, and then they settled on a smaller core group. I hadn't thought of Zoom in years...
