Hi all!

I ran across the site the other night at 4:00 am while calming down after a CH attack.

I've been having CH's over the last 20. I have been in remission for the past 2 years, but the monster has reared his ugly head once again this week. Same old story, wake up at 2am, left side, eye watering & swollen, ice pick pain, and the desire to pull my teeth out....

I was officially diagnosed about 4 years ago by Kaiser (don't even get me started on them...) and was given a course of steroids and codeine. I also learned I have a brother who also has been suffering for years, and was diagnosed with CH's.

So this morning I go to a new Dr (no longer Kaiser & my last one just retired) and he was totally clueless, said it was sinuses, and wanted to give me decongestants and Tylenol. I asked him if he was familiar with CH's, and he says yes I see them every day! I'm wanting to say "so you see over 1600 patients a day!" ::) So we go round and round, and I tell him I really want O2 and Imitrex, he finally caves and gives me a Rx for Imitrex, Prednisone and a decongestant and best of all a referral to a Neurologist!

So that's me and my story, hopefully I wont be posting tonight at 4:00, but if I do, and it in screaming ALL CAPS or something, at least you have a bit of an idea who I am!

Off I go to the drug store, full of hope that this Imitrex is the magic bullet I've been looking for all these years!

Did you get the 02 you asked for?

The imitrex should help.

Glad you found us Glenn.....print off as much info as you can from this site and the OUCH site and mail it to your doc......maybe that will give him some insight to the CH's.....

I'm assuming that you've never taken the injections before....they are HEAVEN!!!!!

Glad to read that you didn't back down. Odd that the doc says he sees CH'ers every day and wants to treat it with tylenol. Glad you got the rx for Imitrex.

Welcome although sad you had the need to look at us

Imitrex injections are my god send so please don't give up on it if the tablets don't work right away....hoping they do but they didn't for me.

Let us know how it goes.......and it's ok to come here in CAPS at whatever time you need to.........even if it's 4 in the morning.......humph.......watch out....you might even find somebody home at that time!!!

Welcome to the asylum. I can't speak about drugs but I just wanted you to know that there is an amazing amount of stuff here from great ideas, not so great ideas, insane ideas, funny ideas, and pure nonsense. I like it all but then I'm not all that tightly wired.

The jurys out on if the steroids did anything, so I guess I'll try them again. I used the codeine to help calm me down after the attacks so I could get back to sleep quicker.

Yea, I'm quite leery about giving myself a shot, but in the middle of an attack I'd do ANYTHING for relief! Sure hopes it works half as good as everyone says!

GlenRrrrgggghhhhhh,

Quite a story. 20 years condensed into 6 paragraphs....and here you are! A most humble welcome. As you've seen, there's plenty of info and opinions from every direction. Just keep one thing in mind: you're getting input from a waft of people that spend a fair amout of time beating their head against both stationary and movable objects. :) Hope the Imitrex works!!!!! BTW....be careful how you use the word "bullet"......tends to make some folks a _little_ jumpy. <G>
