Title: When do they end?
Post by brad267 on Nov 6th, 2002, 4:11pm
Hi All,

I appreciate reading all the tips you guys give!  I'm in 4th week of 1st episode ever.  Are there signs that the episode is stopping, or is it just wham-bam and they're gone?

Thanks for the help,
Brad

Mine usually just get fewer each day until, nothing.

Last cluster lasted 15 weeks.

Mine have no specific method of leaving.  Some have the one last ass kicker and a few shadows and then they are gone.  Other cycles slowly leave.

As far as leaving for good -- I hope death takes care of that issue.

I can sometimes go 3 days without one then 3 days on then 1 day off then 3 days on and on and on and on.

If I get really really lucky I can go almost 2 weeks without one....thats my remission.....LMAO ;D

Someone has to do it.

Historically, I usually get a real head banger hum dinger followed by god awful shadows and then sun finally comes out.  Lots of comparison tables here.  First cycle, I suggest keeping log and paying close attention!  hope it's your last!!!!!

Back when I was episodic, mine would get really REALLY bad right before they were going to stop.  Would always wind up at the ER.  So I use to think whatever they were giving me in the ER was helping but then over time came to realize it was just the pattern of the h/a....didn't go to the ER until they became unbearable thus they would go away pretty promptly after going to the ER.

no ryme or reason to this for me, it's over when it's over, it's consistantly unpredictable ;D  welcome to the board!!!                                                                                                                                                                                                      ..........2late

Last few episodes the trend has been a couple of really bad ones toword the end. The kind that leave you feeling bruised until the next one hits. Although when I first started having them they would just taper off.
So, I guess it's hard to tell you what to excpect Brad.
One thing is for sure, you're probably finding out you can handle alot more than you thought you could 4 weeks ago! Keep your head up buddy (really, keep it up. it helps).
We're with you.

I'm curious, how old are you brad?

They seem to go on forever but mine lasted about 4 to 5 weeks, rarely 6. They were usually 4 to six times a day. Mine have been gone since I was 45, 11 years ago.  I don't know if there is a true age factor. Just not enough real evidence.

Brent,

I'm 32, male, heavy smoker, (ex) heavy drinker...

First week:  1 or 2 per day, 3 hrs long, Kip 7 (I'm learning the lingo, yay!) 1 trip to ER

2nd and 3rd week:  up to 12 per day, down to 10-15 mins long, mostly Kip 10, 2 trips to ER

This week:  8 per day, 20 mins long, Imitrex hides all but the shadows, no ER trips.

I'm wondering whether this is progress, or whether my big fat head is hunkering down for the long haul. ???

Thanks everyone!
Brad

I was going to ask how old you were-but someone beat me to it.  Mine didn't show up until I was 45. They lasted about a year at that point until I found a neuro and found a med that worked for me. Then they went away for 5 years and now they are back again. I went back on the medication (immediately this time) and they are few and far between and not intense at all-very tolerable...but after 5 years, I thought they might be gone.  When the first bout shows up at 45 out of the blue, I was hoping it was a fluke and they would never return...oh well! Doesn't seem to be any rhyme, reason, or life expectancy with these things.  :) :) :)

Hi Brad and welcome.

Sounds like you're going through a really rough time right now and I'm sorry.

I wish I could tell you  how and when it will stop. I had two cycles stop dead and two that kept going and going and going and going.....  Although the real head bangers stop, the shadows just don't quite until one day you realize they're gone.

Good luck and keep us posted.  Linda T
