I trade with you this year....  Here in San Diego the darned sun is shining all the time - can't stand it !!!

I think we got some rain in March...

I sure miss the fall, winter and spring...  here, all we have is sunshine..   I am not being sarcastic..  just took the chance to let it out..  (I grew up in Sweden).

marty...........besides the sunshine season you also have earthquake season, riot season, smog season and forest fire season.

Up here on the edge of the Mojave desert we have four seasons. Two in the summer, the cool season is "DAMN-it's-hot" and the warm season "Sumbitch!-I- think-I'm-gonna-pass-out-hot"

The mild winter season is colder-than-a-well-digger's-ass and the real cold frostier-than-a-librarians-thigh.

You folks just need to move to Kansas City...("where everything is up to date", ya know!)

We have FOUR seasons -- granted spring and fall seem a bit short, but we do have all four.

Winters here can be a bit tough, but not as bad as places like Minnesota, upstate NY,  or Maine.   *Real* winter here runs from mid-December to mid-February

I'm no fan of winter either, but I found it to be very managable.

A friend of mine moved from here to Ft. Worth, TX ...
He loves the very mild winters (or total lack thereof) but he discovered that summer runs from April till late September!  Ugh!

Well, Svenn  -- I wish you well and stay warm!

PFDAN!

Nice catch Svenn.  My car has looked like that on several occasions here in Kansas City.  Much preferred the Minnesota winters.  At least there you can do something with it.  Here in KC we get freezing rain the majority of the time and any snow we get does not stick around very long.
Kansas has two seasons - Paving with asphalt, Not paving with asphalt.  Seasonal colors are - green for spring, and different shades of brown for late summer, fall and winter.

I LOVE THE WINTER!  Especially here in the SF Bay Area ;D ;D.  I think I wore a coat twice last winter  ;D.
It's perfect when the fog rolls in and you can feel the bay breeze blowing when you sleep with the windows open  ;D.
I did go out for lunch in a t-shirt and it was just perfect at 68 degrees.  Unfortunately, not as nice as MOrro Bay.
Actually, the only time it becomes unbearably cold in SF is in the Summer!  It's so funny to see tourists come in their shorts & t-shirts and freeze their A-S-S-E-S off!  :o

Come back here and get stuck in a six-foot drift near Buffalo International, spend all day in line to buy gas at the only station that's plowed out, fight your way down I 90 in blizzard behind snow plows and be forced to stay in a Best Western along with 422 screaming kids, eat nothing but donuts and Dow Chemical created apple pies from a machine, and next day spend 5 hours going 45 miles.  Now that's fun! 8) ::)

Virginia (9erfan),

I'm with you - I have a fire in my fireplace almost every night during July and August while everyone else is dying from heat...but now, it's beautiful.  I walked Ocean Beach yesterday enjoying the 76 degree weather here in the City.  Picture perfect this time of year.

Peppermint,
Trust me, you forget about how great the weather is here when you see the cost of housing!  :(
And today the weather is DISGUSTING!  We are having a TERRIBLE storm here in Northern California; flooding, power outages, trees down, high (70 mph) winds last night.  It was not fun trying to make it in to work today because it was dark and I couldn't see where all the flooding was.  It's UGLY right now!  :o :o

Title: Re: I HATE WINTER
Post by SFChris on Nov 8th, 2002, 1:06pm
9erFan,

Amen to that - I am in the middle of having my roof replaced (figures, huh!) when that storm hit last night.  The workers left some of the equipment on my roof, and when the winds came last night it it blew heavy machinery back and forth all night long....I'm not in cycle BUT I was up all night hoping the roof didn't come down.  Supposed to be worse tonight.

Yes...thanks -  I got that small consolation from another Californian just a few minutes ago... there may be stray snow flurries here.. but the sun is shinin' bright right now....sumthin' is sumthin'

Yes, it is still raining but the surf is double to triple overhead at rincon.  And the dolphins were surfing the waves.  Now if I was in better shape so it didn't take me 45 minutes to get one wave I would really be having fun.

Come on up the coast.  I've heard they're expecting 25-30 foot swells tomorrow.  Probably a good day to go over to Morro Rock and watch the idiots get swept off the the breakwater by some sleeper wave.

I could hear it pounding when I left the house this morning.

Just left the rock - oh sheeet! Bigger than last Feb. - waves are taking some chunks out of the top of the jetty.  Try to leave early and check it out...

I'd go to the beach today, but there isn't one right now.....

One day it snowed here in Vegas. Paralyzed the entire valley. The schools were closed cause the bus drivers were crashing. No body could get to work.  :'(

It was the worst snowstorm in decades, almost a full inch fell that day. :o

That snow was on the ground for almost 3 hours!

Yup, yup, I remember my California days- 'course, we lived inland......never got to live on the beach.....only time WE got to yell "Surf's Up" was when the Northridge EQ hit in... watched the water in our pool fly out of the left side, then out the right side.....total water loss was about 12,000 gal....
I live in Oregon, now.......

Sorry about the bad weather Cali folks...........NOT!!  ;D

I always wanted to hear the waves crashing, but not in my living room.........yeah, big deal, tomorrow will be another beautiful sunny and warm day.

...light rain.. 1/10th of an inch....3 hours of an inch of snow.....

Hey here's an idea....grab your surf boards and head on over to Morro Rock..BobP will be waiting for you to pick him up as you sail past his window... :D  :-*

Ah HA!! So you've BEEN to Wellington, then Charlie?? :o
As the political centre of NZ we try to stay away from Wellington! We live way north of there, thankfully, but when we had to go and work down there right in the city, I was a bit worried about all the ropes that encircle the pavements, and asked why they were there. I was told that it gets so windy with the hi rise buildings creating wind tunnels that the ropes are there for people to hang on to so they don't get blown away!!! Worse, it was true!!
No way this chikki brikki was getting on an outdoor scaffold!! Not when I have to run 'round in the shower just to get wet!! Couldn't wait to get outta there; it blew and blew!!
However where we live it's a lot more pleasant.
Welcome mat's still out; a bit damp today tho', but at least its warmer! (the weather, not the MAT!)

Some good but smaller surf here in NZ too, - our daughter's in Gisborne (city of surf NZ) surfin' her heart out this weekend.
