Title: newbies experiance
Post by krashr31 on Nov 2nd, 2002, 10:31am
Hello everyone! i'm also very happy (and amazed) that i'm not alone. I hope i can offer something w/ my story.
When i was 22 (3 years ago) i moved to Denver. After a week of being there i had my first experiance w/ the Beast. it started pretty slow as i was pulling into my neighborhood. Immediately i went upstairs to my bed where i lay for the next half an hour or so rolling back and forth in agony. As soon and gradually it came it left and i was confused. I had more visits for 10 days or so several times a day.
It was not until 2 years later that they returned. Those episodes only got to about a nine. i say only because the first ones were bad enough that i called 911 my left eye watered just about the whole attack and i had to give my handgun to a friend to hold on to.
Anyway the ones last year lasted about the same amount of time. I would get so upset that i would punch things and get angry w/ anyone around me. my wife would try holding me as i rolled back and forth and i would push her away or go lay in the other room.
A couple days ago they came back. Fortunately they have been between a 6-7.
Mabey they will never get as bad as they did originally (god i hope not).
I went to a few doctors when they occured the first couple times and can you believe they never diagnosed it. I felt like i was having a seizure, stroke or brain tumor. then i typed in severe one-sided headache, found this site, took the quiz and got an A+ on it.
Although i know i had several 10's after reading some of your posts. i realize how bad some of you suffer. i don't know how you chronics get by, honestly.

my attacks definately are related to my sinus. i know that alot of you take substantial meds and probably already thought of this , but it SEEMS to work for me. Drixoral! during the attacks last year i felt allittle stuffy but not to bad but i felt like my  nose was dry in the mornings (when i got hit) so i bought this stuff and took it for a week even after my nose felt clear. well at the end of the week i kinda snorted ( wife hates when i do that) and this really dense green plug like thing came from somewhere in my sinus'. suprised me cuz i did'nt feel stuffy at all.

Like i said it SEEMS to work and i'm on them now and the attacks have not been worse than 7.  sometimes the demon skips a day. but if i don't take my drixoral i'm guarenteed to get one.

I hope this helps at least one person or that i can give hope to the rest of you that these may not always be this severe or may never come back.
                                                          Your Brother,
                                                              Travis

Hi!  Always a mixed blessing when a new person signs on...there are more of us out there than I thought.  I totally agree that I don't know how the chronics survive-At 51, I am only in my 2nd episode (the first one didn't happen until I was 47). I thought after almost 5 years, it was gone...but you can never get comfortable. It always seems to rear its ugly head again.  Glad you found something to help. I got lucky...it took a while, but Wellbutrin works great for me. I went through several meds first unsuccessfully...its all trial and error since nothing works for everyone.
Take care-Jabeen  :) :) :)

Welcome to the board.  I too have sinus problems but it's funny ... when the clusters are really banging I don't even bother with the Allegra-D ... my sinuses don't seem to bother me !!!  But those middle of the night clusters drive me over the edge !!!  I get the stuffy nose with them ... but while in cycle my sinuses feel fine otherwise.  Who knows ..... if you found something that works for you stick with it.  At least it is keeping the pain down.  Read around ... you might find something that will give you true relief rather than just bringing it down a notch or two.

I also have chronic sinusitis and I believe that my cycles start with a sinus attack. This last cycle on the night of my first 10 my sinuses drained out my nose in a horrendous flood and I didn't have another problem with them until 3 weeks after my cycle ended.

Welcome to our little corner. I was 23 as well, when mine showed up. I was convinced I was having a stroke or tumor.  I guess I'm lucky?

Actually, I am. I was 45 when they disappeared. I'm now 56 and so far, so good.

Read all you can, keep in touch and let us know how you're doing.

krashr - welcome to the board, but I'm sorry you felt compelled to seek us out. My first cycle, I went to an ENT because I was convinced the CHs were caused by sinus (lifelong hayfever and sinusitis). After an MRI, he went up into the sinuses with one of those long scope things and sprayed the equivalent of liquid sudafed up there. It was like someone flushed the toilet and everything drained. I damn near drowned in it. But - he didn't find anything (just my empty head  ;D) and it did not bring an end to my cycle.
I eventually found out about cluster headaches and Imitrex and oxygen. This cycle, I learned about Verapamil and it has allowed me to go through at least half my normal cycle pain free.
Stick around and read, read, read. You found the right place for CH sufferers.
good luck

hey everyone. thanx for the welcome. can sinus related symtoms a cause or affect or both of CH. Before i even know what i had i heard a story of a guy that had some major deabilitating headaches and saw many doctors and did'nt have the classic symptoms of normal sinus headaches. Then some doc found that some other upper sinus cavity was completeley clogged and i guess he haad them removed. Does anyone know about these OTHER sinus'?

Welcome to the board!  Sorry that the beast is packin' your nose with blasting caps, and havin' a hell of a good time doin' it.  I'd recommend you try to find a good neuro ASAP, preferably one that is familiar with headaches, or go to a headache clinic if there's one near by.  Good luck!

thanx, hopefully it won't get to that. i've had the slightest shadows for the past couple days. he has'nt come back full force. i've been double dosing my drixoral and making sure i try to keep my nostril clear. seems to be keeping him at bay. wish he'd just leave so i can relax.  later!
