Title: Was this a genuine CH?
Post by Relztrah on Oct 28th, 2002, 2:27pm
First and foremost, thank you for being there.

I woke at about 1:30 AM this morning with a sharp pain behind my left eye. Not agonizing, but definitely enough to wake me up and keep me up...probably a 4 or 5 on the Kip scale. Strangely, I could "feel" myself breathing through my left nostril. Somewhat annoying, but not nearly as bad as the headache. No nausea or other symptoms. I found your Web site and wonder if this was a CH. It tapered off by 5:00 AM to the point where I was able to lie down again and eventually fall back asleep.

I have been awakened in the middle of the night with headaches before, but I could usually trace it back to something I ate. M&Ms seem to give me a nasty headache for some reason. But those are general and not localized behind the eye as was last night's. And I hadn't eaten anything out of the ordinary. Was this a genuine CH or something else? I am male, 48 yrs. old, nonsmoker and very moderate drinker in otherwise good health.

Thank you for any advice or insights.

Possible,  but I'm no doctor.  Curious -- did you try the cluster quiz on the left?

Hard to tell - could be.  I would take echo's advice and take the cluster quiz...  Also, could you sit still or lie down during this headache?  Does alcohol bring on a headache within a half hour or so?  There are a lot of other symptoms that could point you in the right direction.  I'd take the cluster quiz...  good luck.

See a good neurologist, preferably one that specializes in headaches, such as at a headache clinic.

Welcome to the board ... and really hope you don't have to stay.  If it was a cluster, it won't be your last that's for sure.  They don't call them clusters for nothing ... you never get just one (although one is definetly enough for anyone !!!!).

Take the advice above ... start reading the stuff on the board so you have a good way to combat it tonight should it occur again.

OneEyeBlind,

Your're correct to say "They don't call them clusters for nothing "

But, you can, in fact, get just one.

I haven't had a cycle for 4 years but I do, in fact, get hit by "just one" about once a month.

Welcome Relz,
Good stuff here, I tend to agree with it. How about your history, been diagnosed.....past or present?
Take the quiz and if it looks like you may be one of us I suggest you get to a good Neuro ASAP, which can be weeks or even months in some cases. Educate yourself with the resources here and on the OUCH site to start with and you will be better prepared for your OV.
Read, read, read.................
Good luck,
Mark

Welcome to our asylum.  Great advice here. Look it over.

For me, a headache that wakes you out of a sound sleep and keeps you up, sounds very much like a cluster.  It would be nice if I'm wrong.

Look around and keep in touch.

Charlie
