Title: Introduction, One Question Post by David Shea on Oct 28th, 2002, 11:29am Hi Guys&Gals I'm new to this site and have been reading info. here for A few days. I guess I should have Introduce myself here before joining and posting in the chat. If you will allow I'll do that now. My name is David I'm 47 yrs old. I began getting HA @ 15 yrs. old. The HA were one or two times ayear,cycles lasting about 8weeks. Kip scale ?? hard to say, Perhaps 8,9,10"S.. As the ER trips the screams and groans, rocking and profuse sweating were always prevelent in my bouts with the BEAST. always my right eye. And 2:20am the bell rang for round one each morning. AT the age of 41yrs. I though I'd won the war. I had heard from another clusterhead the beast would surrender if I got older and more relax in life. After almost six years, I have found out the beast was only sleeping and awoke last week. I'm now takeing high blood meds. ( NORVACS ) A calcium channel blocker. The durations does not seem to be as long this time around and Kip scale 7and 8's are more prevelent. with long periods of shadows before and after.. Hope you Guys and Gals do not mine me joining you here. Charlie thanks for your Tip.. One Question.... Does anyone experiance the profuse sweating I always have? I'm wondering what is bringing this on. I feel for you all and wish you the very best... Hope you are PF soon. David |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by Slammy on Oct 28th, 2002, 11:34am Welcome to the asylum, David. I, too, will break out into a sweat during an attack, though I do not know specifically why, other that my body is focused on dealing with the pain. Hope the beast's visit is a short one for ya! :D Slammy 8) |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by marty on Oct 28th, 2002, 11:40am Welcome aboard David... As you allready know there is lots of info here.. You are not alone when it comes to sweating.... Each and every time that I'm hit, I sweat to the point where my hair is literally dripping.. I have found that this is not connected to the severity of the attack though :-/. I don't know why the sweating is so extreme - but I have a feeling that someone on this board will know - there's some really smart people here. Marty |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by eyes_afire on Oct 28th, 2002, 11:58am Hi David. I can only hazard a guess about the sweating. One prevailing theory is that a malfunctioning hypothalamus contributes to CH. The hypothalamus also helps control sleep/wake cycles and thermoregulation of the body. So, perhaps it is the malfunctioning hypothalamus that is causing the sweating ??? |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by Bob P on Oct 28th, 2002, 12:15pm Just yesterday, I added a "Hypothalamus Primer" to the hypothalamus section fo the OUCH Library. It talks about the hypo's jobs and body temp regulation is one of them. Here is everything you ever wanted to know about sweating and CH: http://pahlow.net/ch/sweating.pdf http://pahlow.net/ch/sweating1.pdf http://pahlow.net/ch/sweating2.pdf http://pahlow.net/ch/sweating3.pdf |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by don on Oct 28th, 2002, 12:25pm Wecome aboard the ship of the damned. It takes an enormous amount of energy to fight pain. Sweat? Almost as much as when I won that Mr. Olympia contest back a few years ago. |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by Marc on Oct 28th, 2002, 12:50pm Hi David, Just to add my 2 cents to all of the above - yes, during an attack, I sweat big time and have a really, really hard time cooling down. Between the sweating, the nose & eye running, I think I lose one hell of a lot of liquid in a short time! Marc |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by echo on Oct 28th, 2002, 3:25pm Welcome aboard the CH boat. Sorry that you needed to search for such a site. Now that you're here -- stick around. Let us know how you're doing. MB tends to get alittle gamey from time to time, just hang in there. As one of our old farts puts it -- grab an oar and start rowing. |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by David Shea on Oct 28th, 2002, 3:49pm Thanks Echo! I'll be around, Now were to go with these battles going on in my head. Hope I can make back to work in Africa, 2nd week December. I'm on my way to OUCH to try to get info. on foods containeing Nitrities.. Thanks for the Warning Johnny, I'll keep that in mind.. David |
||
Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by Bob P on Oct 28th, 2002, 4:02pm David, You won't find anything on nitrites at OUCH. that's because there are no foods recognized as cluster triggers. Alcohol, nitroglycerine, heat and exercise are the only triggers I've seen mentioned in any literature (unless of course the literature was written by a meegraine doc). |
||
Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by David Shea on Oct 28th, 2002, 4:09pm Thanks for That post Bob I've read that foods containing Nitrites and other compounds that diliate blood vessels are triggers. Thanks Again, David |

I read the info. @ Ouch on why we are sweating, tho I'm not sure I understood it. But, I'm soak after an attack, Have to change and dry off. This is keeping me in my home. Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by domm on Oct 28th, 2002, 5:22pm David - I usually got the sweats during a really bad attack. Never whole body, just forehead and scalp. Welcome to the board and I hope you're following all the great advise thats available here. Are you using O2 or other abortives? The calcium channel blocker thing worked for me (Verapamil). Good luck and PF days and nights to you. domm |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by Jabeen on Oct 28th, 2002, 5:28pm I do not have bad attacks (probably nothing over a 5) but I do sweat also...actually reminds me of night sweats. I am sure males can't relate to that, but maybe some females- Jeabeen |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by David Shea on Oct 28th, 2002, 6:51pm Hey Domm- As I said this nightmare is just comeing back into my life now after 6yrs. of silence. I have to look into some meds. I've never had any before save for pain killers. But5 always said I'll get something if any of this was to happen again. I leared of the 0xgen and cocaine derived meds after my curse was in remission for 6yrs. Any way I'm in the process of look into meds. now, As I don't think I could get by again with out them. I really got my ass kick today. One thing that concerns me is the job I do. I'm Captain on and offshore supply boat and live on it for 60days in Nigeria to boot.. And all meds. are ifvie on board and piss test all the time.. So, I'm not sure what I'll do. Thanks for your Post Domm, Hope to hear more.. David |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by marty on Oct 28th, 2002, 7:14pm David... Talk to your employer about the meds that the Neuro (when you see one) gives you. At my work, we test alot and I was Ok'd for using verapamil - the Imitrex was iffy though and I can't use it while working and not less than 4 hours before going to work. Another thing that you might be able to try (it actually helped me) was caffeine tabletts that disolves in water. I got them while in Scandinavia - Since your ship must be in International waters, maybe you can get them or something like it - I haven't been able to find anything like it in the U.S that works. Hey, it's worth a try... |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by sueellen83 on Oct 29th, 2002, 10:30am Hang in there David!!! Just wanted to tell you that some of the foods listed on the migraine triggers list make my CH's worse. Doesn't necessarily trigger them just makes them more intense. You might keep a diary of HA's and their intensity and what you ate before them and see if you see a corralation. Hope this helps a little. Sue Ellen |

Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by David Shea on Oct 31st, 2002, 3:24am HI sueellan- I remember reading some were that foods containing nirites can trigger clusters. Bob P, tells me I would not find any info. on this at OUCH. I guess the medical community has reversed them selfs on nirites and other compounds being triggers. unfortunately for us I don't think sience will every agree on any triggers for this curse. Its to hard to understand first. and second almost inpossible to study. Thanks for the post. David |
||
Title: Re: Introduction, One Question Post by David Shea on Oct 31st, 2002, 3:34am OH YEAH! tHE NITRITES AND other compounds found in somefoods being triggers. that was a report from the Seymour Diamond headache clinic in Chicago. medical scientists what do they know?
