What HA site? Maybe we could all take turns each day hitting the doc with a snow shovel.

After a year without relief he would then be classified a chronic snow flake. :D

They mentioned Seymour and Diamond a couple paragraphs down......that's probably where they got their information. ::)

6 months between cycles? Must be a variant form of chronic.

They also state "there does not seem to be a hereditary factor to them," which is also inaccurate. But all in all a good article and it's nice to see it out there.

What is the percentage of chronic sufferers? The stated 10% seems low from my reading here.  I hope they're right and I'm wrong.

10-20%, depending on what you're reading. But it's somewhere in there, Charlie.
I actually was happy to see that they mentioned us and had an article about CHs. Sure there were a couple of mistakes. And really, only one of the mistakes is now coming to light -- the hereditary part of the equation. That info is only a couple of years old. Anyone here who got mad at them also write to them and let them know of their error so they'll be better educated on it next time?

M.R. here is nothing to be sorry about, about.com usually has quite good articles and the links you gave are ok.
However, the articles jonny linked to is full of errors; there are better ones on CH at about.com.

One or two headaches per day for three to eight weeks
Many of us would give their cluster eye if they could get away with this.

When the break between cycles is less than six months, cluster headaches are termed chronic.
Like our beloved Dannyboy, they believe the IHS criteria are useless.

Cluster headaches are six times more common among men than women.
Some rather old data.

There does not seem to be a hereditary factor to them.
Sure, you can't trust a know-it-all like Dr. Goadsby.

Those who start having them early may well outgrow them by their forties.
Who would like to swap with Charlie ;D

Other medications used to relieve the pain and prevent attacks include antihistimines, antidepressants, calcium channel  blockers, beta blockers, and lithium carbonate.
SYNTAX ERROR! All these meds are preventative, or at least sold as such:
Beta blockers can prevent meegraines, but seldom help for CH.
Antihistamine treatment for $20,000 from the Diamond clinic have not a very good record :(

If you think you have cluster headaches, you should consult your physician.
An average of 8 years until the right diagnosis speaks for "your physician". How about a neurologist?

Who's gonna tell about.com that this article is below their standard?

OH MY GOD Jonny, me too, according to Dr. Goadsby, should be a chronic!
Thinking of it I am frightened!!
Hopefully I got the info from my Doctor that my cluster is episodic.
So, these idiocies should be checked before being published in a site.

Ciao, Zaira  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
