Title: Hello
Post by Hound_Dogg on Oct 24th, 2002, 2:48pm
Hello, fellow sufferers,

My 1st post, so bear with me. I have been getting Cluster Headaches for over 15years, since I was 18 y/o. I am currently out of cycle, but doing my homework in case they arrive with the new season. They usually start in the spring but starting a cycle in the fall is not unusual for me. In cycle I normally get 3 to 5 per day and go through a storeload of kleenex with each day. Looking at the kip scale mine are almost always a kip 9 with occasional kip 10's. They are always on the right side, and last at the worst 1 hour.

Even though I'm not in cycle, I'll hang around awhile, get to know everyone, and offer any support I can.

Wait!.. No,  It's a trap!    ;D

Bahahaha,  I crack myself up sometimes....... :D

Just a little inside humour, Dogg!  :)

From one hound to another, Welcome!  I hope you arm yourself with a ton of ammunition before the Beast returns for his annual visit!  It's great that you want to hang during remission time, those that are in cycle, and the chronics can use our support!

In cycle Imitrex 6mg auto usually kills it. However, like everyone else, I'm limited on how much I can have. At first it was 8 2/packs per month. Doctor fought insurance and a was graciously given 12 2/packs per month. I don't know ??? I think they use funny math. I also use Veralan. With the occasional oxyir, in case. I haven't had any luck with O2, though. I copied the water method, I'll try that next time.

Dogg,

Check out the "Imitrex tip" on the left, you will be able to turn those 12/2 packs  from 24 shots into 72 shots.

Jonny,

Thanks for the tip, I'll wait for the next trip before I decide if I'm gonna try that. Hate needles, man. At least with the auto-injector you don't see the needle.

Welcome to the ward Dogg.  I understand the season impact you mention.  Unless the SOB has changed his MO he'd going to stomp the back of my right eye this weekend.  I'm soooo excited.

Welcome to our madhouse. Actually, I'm the only sane one here of course..... 8)

It's futile to expect they will return. Mine were episodic and other than the duration, they were similar. It's possible yours will never return. Mine have been gone for many years.

Tell us more and keep reading. Lots of good ideas here.

Charlie

Stan, DRK's gone.

How's this.

Hound Dogg, Glad to hear that the beast's hammer is broken and it could not get a replacement for this falls slamfest on your skull. Glad to hear you are supporting to help those whom the beast is hitting with unbroken hammers.                             PJB

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!!! I've been lurking for about 2 weeks, so I got the joke from Slammy and everyone. To tell you about my Cluster's: They started in my late teen years. Doctor's didn't know what to make of them. Had every test in the book. I was finally given a name for my pain about 10 years ago.

Clusters are always heavy duty, I don't remember anything like "Shadows". Start in eye and and stay in the right facial area. Eye turns red, nose runs like there is no end to the kleenex. Pain is too intense. Last usually around 45 minutes, sometimes alittle less, if I'm lucky. Looking at the quiz I get everything except I don't notice the "Ganglion Lump" on my neck.

Again, thanks for the warm welcome. I hope to get to know everyone soon.

Hey there Dogg

Sounds like you got the kill-a-beast method down pretty good. Have you tried the frozen bag of peas for pain management? What do you do for sleep?

Slammy and Jonny like to "get each other", if you know what I mean. Charlie is sane but he wears woman's cloths.

Me----I'm kind, compassionate, an all around super guy,and in desperate need of money. Got any ?

Don,

Wow, me and Charlie have a lot in common. But let's just keep that our little secret. No reason to let everyone know ;D Money? Me? I'm down to the last 10million grandma left me. Other then that, I'm broke.

Seriously though...What's with the frozen bag of peas? Would you use that on the worst pain, i.e. right eye/facial area. My wife usually gets me a cold wash-cloth, that I wrap around the back of my neck. Not that it helps much, but at least she thinks she's helpin me.

Don't do much for sleep. Usually I'll get just one, about an hour or two after I fall asleep. When one wakes me up, I'll take a shot of imitrex and after it's gone, go back to bed. Hopefully, that would be it for the night.

Sorry, I accidentally posted the same thing twice. Don't mind me, I think I.m losing my mind!!!

If you weren't, or already have lostyour mind you wouldn't be here  ;D

Frozen Peas. Natures gift to pain management. A lot of folks apply ice to the painful areas for a little relief. A frozen bag of peas is perfect as it ergonomically fits the area affected such as your squash, shoulders and neck area. Doesnt leak all over, easy to hold, manuever, and can be added to soup after the imitrex kicks in.

Sleep. My preferred sleep aid is OTC Dramamine. (Don't get the non drowsy formular). Good for some sleep with CH and better for CH and seasickness if you get attacked on a boat.

Nice touch with the wife. Seriously though, it's important that we let our supporters help in any way they can. That can be limited but just acknowledging a simple "are you feeling better" can go a long way.

This is Margi's area of expertise. There is a supporters message board that may be helpful to your wife.

Sup Dog?
I just had to say that.
Anyway sorry that you are a CHer but glad you found CH.com.
There is some good info here and good support. There are a few people here who are CHer's as well. They are the ones whose symptoms are homogenous to the symptoms you descibed.
As you probably have already witnessed there is a lot of crap to wade through too. I contribute my share (of crap)and some more. Well that's all for another day.
I will warn you to watch Ted though. he is one cynical, whining, left winger with some kind of an agenda. I don't even want to know what that is.  ;D
