Been having ch for over 4 years 3 to 4 cycles a year.
After my last cycle that ended june 15 no ch for
about 3 weeks then the ch started 1-2 a day 6-8 kip
for about 4-5 days then they would stop and then start
up few days later.I take imitrex injections so is it
rebound ch or did i go chronic.

You would have to go 365 days with no meds to know if you are chronic or not.

Scary thought but thats the only true way to tell.

One last thing, when I use Imitrex I get 3 times the HA's than I would if I used 02, Zomig or Indomethacin.

cbolony... The IHS defines chronic cluster headaches as going a year with no longer than 14 pain free days in a row (soon to be changed to one month pain free).

Jonny, is that true about the imitrex? Could that be why I'm getting so many damn attacks since I began on them? If so, I'd rather go off them and just endure the pain. You forgot to add "Med free" DRK

Suzy, all I can do is say what happens to me and that is I get alot more HA's when using Imitrex than when I dont.

3.1.1 Episodic cluster headache
Description: Occurs in periods lasting 7 days to one year separated by pain free periods lasting one month or more

Diagnostic criteria:
A. All alphabetical headings of 3.1.
B. At least 2 periods of headaches (cluster periods) lasting (untreated patients) from 7 days to one year and separated by remissions of at least one month.
Comment: Cluster periods usually last between 2 weeks and 3 months.

3.1.2 Chronic cluster headache
Description: Attacks occur for more than one year without remission or with remissions lasting less than one month.

Diagnostic criteria:
A. All alphabetical headings of 3.1.
B. Absence of remission phases for one year or more or with remissions lasting less than one month.

Sorry... But the IHS says nothing about it having to be med free.

Just noticed that the ECH criteria does mention untreated patients, but the CCH criteria doesn't. Leaves a bit of room for debate now doesn't it. Mayhaps it means that a chronic can be PF for longer than a month while under treatment, and still be chronic. Dunno...

Jackie... Nope... I don't presume to know more than the doctors on the IHS committee covering cluster diagnosis. For the most part, I feel that what they say may be true.

Yes... i know that a chronic on meds are still a chronic... I was talking about how they worded the criteria, and mentioning that they may have worded it that way so that they wouldn't have some dipshit doc changing a chronic's diagnosis, just because he's getting some relief from his treatment.
