Title: Stupid
Post by Night_Owl on Oct 5th, 2002, 12:26pm
Now, my doc said that I had sinusitis, and is treating me for that.  I have NONE of the symptoms.  Is this possible?  I am gonna bet no.  One more thing to add to my "Things That Irritate Me" list.

I have cronic sinusitis and each CH cycle starts with sinus problems which caused  misdiagnosement. Sinusis may be a trigger but not the cause of CH. A sinus ha will be felt below or above the eye or in the back of the head. Not behind the eye. My nuro says that true sinus ha's are rare. Also they will beable to be seen with a x-ray.    PJB

I myself was told that i had sinuatis before i was properly diagnosed, ended up having surgery that never helped.Hopefully you wont have to go that route. Are you seeing a neuo. that is familiar with clusters? If not,go to the home page and click on the O.U.C.H.website,they have a list of Dr.that are familiar with our wonderful disorder ( hopefully you will find one near you ).
good luck to you and hopefully PFDAN to you

Dr's will do that to you...  Mostly when they are not familiar with CH. I've seen a number of doctors, both in the US and in Sweden; They all told me that I had "Chronic Sinus Problems"..  Just by pure luck, when at the ER in San Diego, I came across a Doctor that, when I explained my pain and related symptoms, diagnosed me with CH. For 5 years I was treated for Sinus problems - even though X-Rays showed clean sinuses....

As adviced above, check the listings of Doctors and hopefully you can find one in your area

Good Marty. Nice you found a good ER doc.

The odd thing is that my little town.....Jamestown, NY...
has one ER and every staff member knows about CH. and when asked about it they all grimmaced.  Some lucky clusterheads here.

Sinus....not even close.

I will say it again Doctors are Stupid!!!!! When I had spinal meningitis June of 2000 the doctor first misdiagnosed me by saying" that sounds like a sinus infection" and prescribing cipro to me over the damn phone... 2 days later puking and the headache still didnt go away... I ended up in the hospital with a lumbar puncture and a 5 day stay... fried my brain with the 104 temp I couldnt get to break... Sinus and CH are two totally different pains... tell your parents to find a new doc for you... You dont have sinus problems... and time will tell Im sorry to say... If it is CH it will return... ~~~~love ya girl Ree

Yes...for seemingly smart people they aren't very knowledgable.  The ones I have seen aren't anyway.  I go to my neuro on the 11th and won't leave that office until I get something...this is ridiculous...just fell down the stairs...think I might've given myself another butt crack!

I feel for you Night Owl, I've had quite a bit of trouble with the misunderstanding of the medical community.

If you don't already have one, a tank of Oxygen can be your best friend.

Fortunately it works for me. Unfortunately, it took years of suffering to find this out. Thanks, Doc.

Night!
Ok, back to the other night's discussion on HSG -
If you can't get 02 from the docs, I understand that you can use welder's or diver's 02.
The expert on regulators etc. on this is JOnny, as I understand it.  I hear this is what he uses... maybe it would be worth it for you....

Anything's better than a new crack... ;)

Right on Johnny ! You go, man...spread the message of how to get that inexpensive welders Oxygen ! You bet. I love my oxygen tanks. I treat them like holy relics during times when I'm not in an episode. Knowing that there might come another time when they are precious friends. Fill em up and keep em filled. Holy grails they are indeed.

I think one of the reasons some doctors make stupid diagnoses is that they want badly to help and things such as sinisitis have solutions. CH, on the other hand is frustrating to many doctors and they feel as helpless as we.  At least that's my theory.

not to rain on the parade, but I think *diver's o2* doesn't exist...... SCUBA divers use compressed air which is mixed with nitrogen (like the ambient air that we breathe) ...altho divers DO mix other gasses (like helium) for extreme depths

still, jonny is the OH TWO GOOROO......

if I'm wrong, the Ole Owl (Ueli) will surely  call my Med Supplier and inform them that I'm just a meegrainer...and cut me off...(sob) :'( ...it was a good run...all this time I thought I had clusters...turns out to be The Heart Break of Psoriasis......)

They're absolutly correct.

Diver's air is just that, air.  Same thing you're breathing right now.  An air compressor sits out back and sucks in the air from the parking lot and squeezes it into your diving tank.  No nothing is added to it, unless you are doing deep water diving, when they start using mixed gasses.

When my tank was being filled I always walked to the other end of the dive shop.  Read an article once about a tank exploding while it was being filled.  Made a heck of hole!

Sure, the speed the air enters the tank is so great that it heats the tank really fast thats why they put it in a tank of water to keep it cool, otherwise.....KAABOOM!!!!

Big Kaboom.  1972 hauling 4 tanks in the trunk of my pals car heading salvage diving when the car broke down.  Left the car, hitched a ride back to get some tools.  Gone about an hour.  When we returned the rear 2/3  of that 70 Galaxy was friggen GONE!  There were parts scattered for a hundred yards in every direction.  Insurance didn't cover it -- something about a moron clause.  Oh to be 18 and stupid again, 4 tanks of pressurized air in the trunk of a car on a hot sunny summer day.
