Title: Am i the only one? Post by Lenny on Oct 4th, 2002, 5:09pm I have been reading alot of post qf my fellow clusterhaede's that bang their head's during an attack. As for myself i have never done that,( maybe I'm missing out on a new trick. LOL ). Are there any other clusterheade's like me or am I unique ( if there are others like myself, has there ever been a study of what percentage of us bang our heads). I sure hope I'm not the only one( starting to feel like a freak - LOL ).Hopefully many PFDAN to us all. Lenny |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by suzy617 on Oct 4th, 2002, 5:16pm I've never tried smashing my head against the wall either but I do pace alot and rock alot and picture in my mind raising a gun to my head and pulling the trigger. I read in here someone that bashes his head in with the telephone, call me chicken but 1 pain is enough to deal with at one time for me, LOL. |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by Lenny on Oct 4th, 2002, 5:27pm suzy617 Ditto for everything you just said. The closest i got is putting all my weight on my shoulder ( 4- degree seperation ) that i was suppossed to have operated on a couple of years ago ( surgeon and i both thought it would be a good idea to wait for this cycle to end ).Chronic and waiting for the miracle to rescue us all from this. |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by jonny on Oct 4th, 2002, 5:39pm Dont quote me but its something about pain receptors skipping a beat and by banging your head say with your hand you get it to stop skipping, or something like that. I do it ............................jonny |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by Charlie on Oct 4th, 2002, 5:41pm You're not alone and I bet if you did a poll, most of us have never banged our noggins. When I first came here, I thought the same thing. It never crossed what little mind I have. I used to make an idiot of myself, make lots of noise and no doubt looked pretty scary. Bang my head....no. Of course reading our posts, one would assume we do it all the time ::) I don't think you're in a minority. Charlie |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by Ree on Oct 4th, 2002, 5:43pm banging your head or hurting yourself makes the pain less intense by separating the pain so it goes from one intense pain to two more tollerable less intense pains... it cuts up the big pain by interupting it or something like that... I know what I mean just cant explain it... something like what jonny said ya thats it...ree |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by Jim R on Oct 4th, 2002, 5:48pm Lenny, Have only banged my head a few time with KIP 10+'s The possibility of adding more pain, or a fractured skull and it's brain effects, on top of what I've already got at this level is not attractive to me. Those that do must find it diverting somehow - and Man, whatever works, I'm ALL FOR! LOL. PFDAN's to you. - Jim R |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by Jackie on Oct 4th, 2002, 7:02pm Blake doesn't bang his head on objects. He hits himself on the CH side with his fist as hard as he can. He's managed to knock himself out a few times.....says it was a great relief :-[ I'm scared he could do permanent damage so I try to keep him from using this "out".. :( Bless his heart....Bless all your hearts.... :'( Jacks 8) |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by jonny on Oct 4th, 2002, 7:08pm Thats what im talking about, Jacks......I know I read it just cant remember where. Something about the signals of pain receptors being interupted and by banging you get them going again. Ueli, anything on this, Bro? ..........................jonny |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by maria on Oct 4th, 2002, 7:32pm jonny, there is a medical term for this "painous interruptus" no just kidding I made that up ;D. I think head banging is an attempt at pain mediation from the CH by eliciting other pain receptors/pathways in the head. Maria |

Title: Re: Am i the only one? Post by oringkid on Oct 4th, 2002, 11:40pm I used to bang my head on the wall but found that after the ch was gone then I had bruises to contend with. But I still will almost instinctively pick up something and tap my head with it (stapler, brush) or I will rap my knuckles on my head or sometimes dig my fingernails or a pencil into various hot spots (not super hard) and it relieves the pain for a second then I move to another spot etc. When the pain reaches a 6, I just can't help it. Like I said it seems to be instinctive. Sherry |
