Title: Can I join your club now? LOL Post by kparent on Oct 4th, 2002, 3:02pm Saw the Dr today and made her listen to me... It took about an a half hour to tell her my ha diary, symptoms and what nots......Then she said it sounds like Sinus Headaches. So I told her the difference between my headaches and sinus headaches (thanks to this site, I had the knowledge to know the difference). She said "well, we know you have migraines, and if it is not sinus headaches it sounds to me like you are probably suffering from chronic cluster headaches" and when into the blah blahs of what a cluster headache was (I let her explain it to me even though I knew what they were...again...thanks to this site). So I am on meds again (nortriptyline)that dopes me up but she says that my body will get used to them and that the drowsiness will go away (ashame to, because I am high as a kite and kinda liken it....LOL) Just kidding...I do have to function as a full time mom and computer geek. The meds I'm on are the second of my trial and error phase. I did ask about the Imitrex injection (which everyone raves about) but she said that it will not help until we get the constant ha under control. I will be on these for 2 months and then I will need to go back to see if other methods will work. I told her my goal is to be drug-free with no pain. She said that it is unlikely at this point but maybe this time next year we can try that. Sounds good to me. So thank you for this wonderful web site and I hope that we can have a long and meaningful relationship together.....Gawd....I'm going to bed!!!! LOL |

Title: Re: Can I join your club now? LOL Post by kparent on Oct 4th, 2002, 3:34pm She looked it up on the computer in the exam room!! LOL That is what kills me about dr.s.....Anyone can be a dr. You type in a few symptoms, click a diagnosis and it has all the information (including what drugs to prescribe) right there!!! |

Title: Re: Can I join your club now? LOL Post by domm on Oct 4th, 2002, 5:58pm K - sorry you felt compelled to seek us out, but glad you're here. Sounds like your doc is a lot like most I've gone to, didn't have a clue. My current one actually asked me how I wanted to treat it, which worked fine with me, but it would have been nice to go to someone who didn't "practice" medicine, but actually knew what they were doing... :D good luck in finding the right set of meds and keep pushing for a cure - PF days and nights to all domm |

Title: Re: Can I join your club now? LOL Post by Charlie on Oct 4th, 2002, 6:02pm Often, I have the feeling that doctors,(many of whom have horrific schedules) like to come up with anything but clusters. It's frustrating dealing with a disease that they can't do much about as they want to help. It's also embarrassing that their patients often know more than they about this disease. Tritto on a new doctor. Charlie |

Title: Re: Can I join your club now? LOL Post by Jim R on Oct 4th, 2002, 6:45pm YES, Charlie, my Bud! You HAVE HIT IT!! Now HERE is a guy with Experience with doctors! Sad but true, most know little, if anything about them - best bet -a neuro, but even that's no guarantee. With physicans, be ready to bail with the first stupid/illogical comment, but if they;re willing to LISTEN to you, that's a definite PLUS! LOL - Jim R |

LOL Post by jonny on Oct 4th, 2002, 7:36pm Thats the key, Jim My new Neuro asked me what is the choice combo for chronics......I said Lith and Verap, he said "thats right" He asked whats the choice combo for episodics.....I said "I dont know im not episodic"........he said good answer, you need not know what not applies to you. Title: Re: Can I join your club now? LOL Post by kparent on Oct 4th, 2002, 7:43pm Hi Gang, I completely agree with you about the new Dr....but I am apart of a very small HMO and I think all of the doctors are in cahoots with each other. And the migraine is back...It is only about a 4 right now but give it about an hour and it will be full blown....I'm sure the CH is soon to follow. I didn't know that nortirptilyne (sp??) was only a preventative that takes days to start working.....I was feeling like heaven earlier but I am back in hell. I did call the urgent care department and spoke with a different dr who actually understand how dibilitating headaches are. He is calling in a prescription of Fioricet for me....my old friend..... I can't wait til I am drug-free. It seems like it cannot happen soon enough. Thanks for all of the advice!!!!!! PFDAN (I'm learnin'.....I'm learnin'......lol) |

Title: Re: Can I join your club now? LOL Post by Marc on Oct 4th, 2002, 10:45pm kparent, Two questions for you: - When you said that your headaches are constant, what do you mean? - Does Fioricet work for you? |
