Title: Things getting brighter (I think) Post by StanTheMan on Sep 25th, 2002, 1:04pm Maybe I should say this too loudly, but I *think* remission is nearing for me. (After 5 weeks). Went 2 days without an attack and only a couple of shadows. The beast visited me late last night--took my Maxalt -- about 5min. after it started. The pain only went to about a Kipp 3 or 4 and lasted about 20 min. So hopefully I'm moving in the right direction. Went to the neuro last week. At this point he's going to keep me on the same meds when I have my cycles. I expressed an interest in O2 next 'go round and he's willing. He mentioned that he personally hasn't seen a lot of sucess with O2, but certainly isn't opposed to giving it a try. Also had a MRI and an MRA done -- will get the results when I see the neuro tomorrow... Regards and wishes for PFDAN to all. StanTheMan |

Title: Re: Things getting brighter (I think) Post by echo on Sep 25th, 2002, 1:08pm Reads like the dr is willing to work with you. Whenever they are "Willing to give it a try" your already heading in the right direction. Hope you are truly heading towards the end of the dance. |

Title: Re: Things getting brighter (I think) Post by Jim R on Sep 25th, 2002, 3:57pm Stan, GREAT for you! I really hope so - I'm having a good spell to and it's fantastic. I usually have 5+ month long cycles and I'm only 2 into this and with my current meds. combo, I'm having luck. Your neuro at least doesn't sound close-minded and arrogant, as so many are. Sounds like you have the elements for success! BEST wishes, bro. Jim R |

Title: Re: Things getting brighter (I think) Post by StanTheMan on Sep 26th, 2002, 9:46am GREAT NEWS! The neuro looked over my MRI report and saw NOTHING ABNORMAL ;D !! (Hey, at least I don't have to worry about my brain exploding or anything wierd like that, right?) Seriously though, I'm encouraged that he's keeping an open mind about treatment. He suggested possibly looking at Predisone or something like that for the next go round. Even though I think I'm nearing the end of my cycle, I'm glad he gave me some more Maxalt samples to cover me while I'm out of town next week. Thankful I have a decent doc. Regards and PFDAN folks! Title: Re: Things getting brighter (I think) Post by oringkid on Sep 27th, 2002, 4:55pm If you are nearing the end, the prednisone could end it early for you. Pred can end a cycle, especially if you are near the end. Pred is good at getting rid of the pain. If you are in the start or middle, it's not so great, but near the end it could really help. Make sure it is a high to low, short duration deal. I don't think that the constant pred is good but when they give you a week to week and a half "high to taper" it really can break the cycle. Check with your doc and see. It worked for me at the end. If nothing else, it will give you a "holiday" from the pain. Sherry |
