Title: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by curtisdsc on Sep 25th, 2002, 10:07am Well my insurance company finally decided I am allowed to have more than 9 headaches a month. No need to split the pills now. Fortunately I think I may be close to the end of this episode. So I have a couple of questions. I have had CH for about 12 years and until recently didn't even think something like this board may exist. How many of you have CH that changes to I guess a tension HA at the top of your neck towards the end of your episode. Are there any that have motion sickness. I get motion sickness worse than normal during an episode. Also, Mine attack me at 11:30 PM. How many have found out staying up past their time helps if they get awakened by them. I have found especially with this episode if I stay up I still get it (sometimes I don't)but I am able to catch it and get meds in time to eliminate the worse pain vice waking up at a level 5 or 6. Finally are the shadows the feeling of something similiar to pain but not really. I get towards the end of an episode the feeling almost all day long that there is a canal from my right eye that runs behind my ear and down the right side of my neck. I posted earlier to ask if anyone had the feeling if they could just pop their neck it would all go away. Because that is what I am going through now. Maybe a Chiropractor could work some magic. Sorry for the book, hope it makes for good reading and generates some feedback. |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by NancyMcFree on Sep 25th, 2002, 12:08pm When getting hit at night regularly (each and every night) it doesn't matter what time I go to bed. I get hit between 1 - 1 1/2 hours after going to sleep. You described the shadows as I understand them. I get a pain in my left eye that runs through my sinus line (accross the teeth, into the ear) but the pain is no where close to a real headache. I have had the shadows for 2 weeks at a time with no let up. During the shadow periods I don't get hit with a 10 every night ... I just get hit sporadically. Hope that helps. Its just my experience. |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by curtisdsc on Sep 25th, 2002, 12:23pm Cool maybe this is the end of this cycle. I for some reason can't remember how they have ended in the past. I am getting a new kind of HA now that I always get at the end of the cluster cycle. Those damn tension type headaches that start at the base of my neck in the back and go over the top of my head. They feel like my whole head is going to explode. As silly as it sounds though I just want to pop my neck. Anyone else have cycles that end this way? The chiropractor will be seeing me in the AM. Reading the post I don't see how someone chronic manages to do anything. |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by 9erfan on Sep 26th, 2002, 6:42pm I get A LOT of pain in my neck with my headaches. Sometimes the pain extends all the way across my right shoulder. When the h/a's are at their worst I have a bulging (sp?) muscle on the side of my neck that hurts like hell. Chiro has never helped me. I have been able to get a little relief from regular massages. |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by Drk^Angel on Sep 26th, 2002, 6:48pm I have chronic TTH, so it's definately not a sign of the end for me. Normally, I can tell when the cycle is wrapping up when the shadows begin to die down. PFDAN......................... Drk^Angel |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by Jabeen on Sep 26th, 2002, 6:59pm Hi! I have never experienced that type of headache at the end of a cycle. I am luckier than a lot of these people-I didn't get these until I was 45 and had a 5 year reprieve and they started again this year-but I am definitely episodic. The only thing I get is a lingering eye pain in the eye on the side of the attack. If I get attacked at 3 a.m. and then sleep the rest of the night, I still wake up with the eye pain. Fiorcet has been very helpful for that (not the CH) I tend to get tension headaches or female cycle headaches but not attached to the clusters. :) :) :) |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by curtisdsc on Sep 26th, 2002, 7:52pm well i went to see the chiro today. i did have a ha last night. went to bed at normal time, woke up at exactly 11:30 and bingo pain. hour later after meds i think i was asleep again. any way got up with the shadow pain. felt ok really. got to work and felt that damn tension type ha coming on. imitrex doesn't do anything for it either. it felt like my whole head and neck was in a vice, it was constant pain that made me fell like i was going to puke. i made it to chiro for appt. went through the paper work listened to the spill how this could take a while to get a small curve in my neck straight and finally got to the alignments. well i am married with three boys, beautiful wife, 2 dogs, your typical male. well i think i would have kissed this guy. he did something to my neck. it popped, made my eyes water, my ears felt like they drained something and the ha was gone. just like that. still had shadows though but the other ha was gone. the chiro suggested i see my regular doctor because he thought i had another kind of migraine? of course his course of treatment can cure it in time to. any good sources for other kinds of migraines? nobody gets a ha like i am descibing with the cluster? |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by curtisdsc on Sep 26th, 2002, 8:33pm oh yea, navy neuro diagnosed me and said they were clusters. always same side right eye, runny nose all the sysmptons. just recently like the last few episodes i get these other HA's. they sometimes come the morning after a CH and like the CH they get me at the same time of day. I mean CH hits me at night and the other during the day. unlike the CH i almost know this other one is coming though. My wife thinks it is just tension from the night before. I get real stressed when I am having an episode. Maybe they are just tension but I can't find any med to get rid of it. Maybe it's time for a followup with a neuro. Last couple of years I have just seen my family doctor for refills of Imitrex. |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by oringkid on Sep 27th, 2002, 5:16pm Could be your wife is right. I know that during my cycle the pain in my neck builds and builds and builds till it is almost as bad as the CH except it is in my neck and shoulders. I think, though I don't know, that a muscle relaxant might work for that. Haven't tried it myself...don't have insurance, but I know that the CH causes tension in me. Sherry |

Title: Re: Looking for Info experiences knowledge Post by ave on Sep 29th, 2002, 2:04pm A great way of getting rid of neck pain is this. Sit on a straight backed chair, butt well back, back against the railings, OR stand with your back flat against a wall. Imagine large, weighty sacks sitting on both your shoulders, so pull them down... down... down. Keep your head straight, aligned with your spine. And now tuck in your chin and look haughtily down your nose (just like a proud flamenco dancer, if you have ever seen one). This should stretch and straighten your neck and give relief to tension. Good luck. |
