Why oh why when you have cluster's and are put on meds do you gain weight.....Some Dr's won't even talk about it nor will they tell you that that can happen. Just now on T.V. with a Neuro (that I use to go to....what an not a very nice person) did he himself admit that a lot of people who go on meds do gain weight that is why they really like this new drug....Tomopax (sp?) The women on it lost 92lbs in one year while on it....ok she had migranes not clusters.....This is the same neuro that had me on soooo many drugs that cause a mild MI and then when I got preg dropped me because I was high risk.....Yet they praise him like he is a GOD!......But really does anyone know it's surly not from overeating.......Sami

Sorry! I never experienced any significant weight gain. I started having CH's about 10 years ago, at age 32. I did add a some weight, but that started before I was taking meds, and I feel certain it was more attributed to my metabolism slowing down and getting married to a good cook. I didn't start taking meds until my second cluster, which would have been about 8 or 9 years ago. I take Maxhalt and Lithium during my cylces. My weight leveled off to a "normal" amount about 5 years ago.

The weight gain I'm talking about is durning a cycle....I gained about 9lbs durning this round....I know I will get it off but it's just one more thing to deal with....I don't stay on preventive meds for my clusters they don't work for me, so I just take meds during that time....I was on imitrex, Klonopin, stadol. Frova and Predisone only for 5 days each they didn't work for me. As of 3 weeks ago I went back into remission so we will see how long this time will last, the last remission lasted almost 4 yrs before that I got them yearly for 6 weeks with multi attacks per day......Sami

Last cluster was 15 weeks long. Mainly used cafergot, O2 and verap. Lost 18 pounds.

I was on topamax for 1 1/2 years and gained 50 pounds on it. I gain weight on anything. I just gain weight I guess it must be what I eat.

I have heard and experienced weight gain on prednisone (I didn't realize it was that at the time though) I have also read on the board about others experiencing weight gain with some of the other drugs...I would tell you to search but the threads I remember were part of the bunch that got lost...

Thanks for your replies.....I guess I'm just one of those people that gains weight on drugs....Period....LOL.....now to lose it.....I'm not heavy just that those 9lbs make your jeans just too tight....eeeggghhhh!....well I do know for a fact that predisone will put weight on you if you are on it for a bit...I've seen my patients gain 50,60,70lbs in 3 months but I don't think that this was what did it...I think it was the Klonopin that did this.....Sami

It's an automatic editor. It automatically changes certain words to other things. You'll find most of the banned words have to do with s*h*e*e*p and other beastiality things because of the old hacker boy from the old MB.
