Title: Newbie here - being hospitalized tomorrow
Post by HLO on Sep 24th, 2002, 11:14pm
Hey everyone.  I am so glad I found this board tonight.  I visited my neurologist today and found out he is going to be putting me in the hospital for awhile.  I have been diagnosed with Hemicrania Continua.  I have had this God awful pain since June 6th of this year.  I was in a car accident in December and was having my shoulder operated on that day.  When I woke up from surgery I had the most terrible pain on the right side of my head that I have NEVER experienced before.  They kept telling me it was a migraine but I have had migraines since I was a child and believe you me, this was far worse and different than any other migraine I have ever had before.  (Wrong side and wrong area!) This will be my umpteenth time in the hospital this year.  I am really not looking forward to it.  I am scared as I have been on so many different medicines, Indocin being one and nothing has helped.  I have Crohn's disease and Indocin was too rough on my GI track.

It is really calming to know that there are others out there that are experiencing the same thing and each of us are not alone in our suffering.  I have been doing a lot of studying in regards to medications and care, my questions to all of you are related to how you are fairing in your everyday lives?  Work, family, friends?  I have been on disability from work for the last 3 months.  I think I am at risk for losing my job.  I can't concentrate as my head is constantly feeling like someone is stabbing it.  :'(

How long have each of you been suffering from your illnesses?  I see some of you have had periods of relief but the pain has come back.  My Dr. is not able to tell me if I will be pain free once we are able to figure out how to slay this ugly beast.

Okay, enough from me.  I look forward to hearing from each of you and wish all of you well in your recoveries.

Best of luck to you.

Hemicrania continua is different from cluster headache (the disease we suffer).

I'm sure you know all about your condition but here is a link anyway:

domm... Hemicrania Continua isn't the same as CH, so his answers are going to differ slighty from ours on the cluster quiz.

For those that don't know... Hemicrania Continua is a TAC like clusters with similar symptoms and autonomic features, except that the attacks are non-remitting (continuous) for at least 2 months (according to IHS diagnostic guidelines).

Good luck HLO!
