Title: DESCRIPTION OF CLUSTER PAIN
Post by Franconi_777 on Sep 23rd, 2002, 12:04am
Hi all you clusterheads out there in laland,

Please be patient and gentle with me, as I am new to this site.  Anyho' I had a question on the type of pain, since I've been suffering with the worst bout of my life since last November 2.  It is unbearable, always behind and around the left eye, and now temple area, and sometimes throbs.  (Gerenally it is upon exertion that it throbs, especially mental).  I'm wondering if any of you have this atypical type of cluster that throbs to some degree.  Or do all of you just have the type of pain that is always there, but more piercing, like lightening, than throbbing?

God bless you all.

Franconi

Hello and welcome to the site.  I too have mine around the left eye.  Sometimes mine throbs a bit also.  Mostly it is just plain pain.  Hope you find what you are looking for.

Welcome to the board.  My pain is more of like an ice pick stuck in the eye socket; along with a burning or running nose; sometimes an additional knife in the ear; and my teeth usually ache to boot.  If you are not sure if you have cluster headaches try taking the "cluster quiz".  There is a button to the left here.  Also, read through the posts ... lots of good info here.   If you can't find what you need ... ask .... there are lots of good people lending support here as well.

I don't think I would call it throbbing... throbbing for me would be like when you have a headcold headache and bend over.

But mine has jolts.  Especially near the end.

Hey, I forgot ... but there is a picture that Zairia drew that hit home for me.  Reminded me exactly of what my pain feels like ... although the chick in the picture looks like she gets some sleep once in awhile.  (no saggy eyes, far off "foggy brain" look).  But it said a thousand words in a picture (for me anyway).

Try and find it ... it was posted within the last three months and she doesn't post that often.  She's a great artist !!!!

Hey 2Late .... we got something in common.  Lucky us.  LOL !!!!!  I forgot to say how hot the ice pick was; also forgot to say that on really good ones you get the extra knife in the temple !!!!  Alas, we NEVER want to remember it all !!!!!!  That, perhaps, is a good thing !!!

Hello people.
"My pain is more of like an ice pick stuck in the eye socket; along with a burning or running nose; sometimes an additional knife in the ear; and my teeth usually ache to boot"

That's what mine feel like. Then I get the thrusts going on around the last 15 minutes or so. Boy my nose gets stuffy. When it first comes, my nose gets real clear, then starts to stuff up. Usually the side it hurts on. I only hurt on the right side for the first 9 years or so, last year it started on the left as well.
It never ceases to amaze me.
                                 Mike

All I know is that MY pain is worse than any of yours!

I know for sure it's worse than Hub's 'cause he has meegraines! (or maybe he just hangs around here to pick up chicks).

:D Ya know Bob, normally I would look at that post and get on my soap box to say that each person experiences pain differently and you can't quantify whether yours is worse than anothers etc etc yadda yadda yadda.....

But I have to agree with you, at least til the end of the month.  Your pain is worse than the rest of us cause you have to behave all responsible like and take care of us OUCH minions while we bow down to our GRRRRRRRREAT (best tony the tiger impression) President :) :)  :D  :D  :D

That's funny!  Normally I would look at that post and laugh, because it's not every day Bob exhibits a sense of humour!  Then laugh at Cat who takes the bait, hook, line, and sinker!   ;D

Sometimes I get bored and have to take a shot.

Hub told me this morning I didn't know how to "manipulate" people like he does so I took the opportunity.  Pain is always an easy one to get stirred up.

Cat:
You're completely correct, of course.  Pain is very subjective.  CH hurts like a MoFo.  Who the heck knows how much?

But now, what happens at the end of the month that you don't have to bow to me anymore?  Whatever it is, don't tell hub about it.  He thinks the bowing thing is a lifelong obligation.

VIVA LA TMJ-HEADACHERS REVOLUCION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oooops. Pretend you all didn't see that.

Franconi_777, I have a type of ha known as cluster-migraine syndrome, I have most of the symptoms as a cluster(burning steady pain, red eye) and some as a migraine ( 6 hour ha's, switching sides ) . There is also migraine-cluster syndrome which has more migraine than cluster symptoms. I'll have to find the links that I have. Abortives are o2 and imitrex but beta-blockers can work as a preventative which is used for migraines not clusters.

Elections!!!!

Oh yeah.

Only one week left for nominations , then the whole month of October for voting.

BTW - I really think we ought to wait on deciding the location of next years convention until the new Pres. is decided, sicne he/she will be intimately involved in putting it all together (course, if the nominations don't change, we'll know who the Pres is by next week).

pjb,

your headcase sounds the most like mine.  the only difference is the background pain is constant in my case and the slightly throbbing headache doesn't shift.   I don't get the characteristic nausea and vomiting that accompanies migraine, although you didn't mention having those symptomes either.

keep keepin' on and let me know of your progress steps as we fight the beast.

Four days left in the nominations, and still no one wants to run against me... :(  C'est la vie... I'll just have to work harder at the position then.

Hi! Welcome aboard-I have no throbbing-just the quick, fast attack out of the blue-always in the middle of the night.  My eye on the effected side tears terribly after and during the attack and nose runs and gets stuffed??
