Did yall see on the Today show this morning that this couple forced their addopted daughter to drink excessive amounts of watter as punushment?
Poor thing died of water toxicity.

I knew excessive water could kill you, but I didn't see the show. Not sure how much you would have to drink for it to be toxic though.

A whole lot more than most people can drink. That's all I know. :-/

What that much water does is lower ones sodium level so much that the brain swells causing death, Lithium lowers the sodium level also. so if your on Lithium and thinking of trying the "Water treatment" talk to your Doc first.

I didn't see the show but I am a chronic CH sufferer (24 years total with a few breaks here and there. This time has been 4 years and still counting). I take Lithium and drink lots of water. Although I would bet not enough to kill me since I'm still here! :D But I wonder if it can hurt me to a lesser degree? Guess, I'll ask the Doc at my next regularly scheduled appointment. Glad I found this site and all the good info! This place is great! :)

Ive been taking Lith for over a decade everyday and drink tons of water myself, me thinks as long as you dont cut back on your salt intake you will be fine (I love salt big time....LOL)

Ask your Doc anyway.

BTW: If you take Lith everyday for more than six months you should be having blood work done every six months, this is extremly important!!!

See... I told ya water was bad for ya... That's why I stick with beer and liquor (or if I'm bored, maybe some wine).

Good info Jonny - salt is VERY important if on lithium - gotta stay the same and it won;t if you drink lots of water. - JimR
