Title: New triptan tabs
Post by Richn on Sep 15th, 2002, 12:48am
Hello,
My name is Rick.  I have been a clusterhead since Oct 5th, 1986.  I had been relatively free of h/a for the last 2 years (or so), but about 6 weeks ago I began to suffer the torture of 4 attacks a day, at least one of which would occur during sleep.  In that time I have been through 100+ tabs of otc meds; vicadin; 20+ Imitres tabs; 8 Imitrex shots; 3 trips to ER, and numerous cranial-immovable object colisions.  I recon that some of my recent problem was rebound, but, frankly, when it hurts I don't care why--I just want the pain to stop.  Thursday, the 12th, my Dr. insisted I try a new med (a triptan with a 26 hour half-life) he had just learned about a neuro clinic he attended.  I was hesitant, and yes, outright fearful (The only sanctuary ever offered has been in imitrex).  I left his office with a prescription for 2 tabs, and little hope.  After calling quite a number of pharmacies my wife finally located one that had just begun to carry this med.   I took 1 tab Thurs around noon and 800mg of Ibuprofen (3x daily) as instructed, and returned on Fri to report to my Dr. that I had no attacks Thurs or Fri morning.  I did not take a tab on friday but continued the IB.  My Dr. told me to take another tab Sat (today) and continue the IB.  To this point I have not had another attack.  I admit the presently I do feel the shadow but also recall that I have neglected my dose of IB.  This may not be a cure-all, but it may offer others an additional tool, and at least the hope options provide.
    Med id:

Frova (frovatriptan succinate) tablets - 2.5mg

Dist by    Elan  Biopharmaceuticals
              San Diego, CA  92121

Cost wise they are about the same as imitrex tabs.

I am in no way connected with this company, in fact I have found it almost impossible to be connected with the mere act of living, let alone making a living.  I hope that this will help someone in condition similar to mine.  I hope it would help us all, but the reality of the beast is that it seems always to find some way to all of us somehow.  Death to the Beast  and Bless the Clusterheads.

Happy to answer any questions or in any other way help if anyone thinks I may be able.

Rick

I read what great experiences you have had with Frova.  I've taken it twice last week, and if anything my attacks have doubled (time or lenght wise).  It did not help the amount of attacks I get, and it took away the effectiveness of the only thing that  ( aborts ) for me is the IMATREX injections.  And no I don't work for G.W.
