Title: Verapamil
Post by mustang on Sep 9th, 2002, 4:51pm
Has any one had nausea, tiredness, dizzyness  from taking verapamil? It seems now that I have been taking this for one week that that each does is upsetting my stomach more and more. Not taking a large dose yet only 40mg 3 times a day, next week I go to 80mg. a day
Does this feeling of nausea and dizzyness go away, or should I be concerned?     :)      I have not had a ch in 4 days, this is good, the compination of sansert and verapamil is working just don't like the way I feel while on it.

I started Verapamil about two weeks ago and yes, it has upset my stomach. But to be fair, I have changed my diet - staying away from red meat, eating lots of roughage, fruits and salads to try to avoid the constipation everyone warned me about. I take it with food and am dosing at 60mg X 3 per day. Using Imitex and O2 to break the occasional HAs that break through (about once a day - very irregular timing). If I don't get complete relief, I'll be talking to the doc about upping the dosage.
I haven't been tired or dizzy though. Make sure you watch your blood pressure.
Good luck and enjoy the PF days when you get them

Mustang, I just started taking the Verapamil as well.  Haven't noticed any side effects.  I am taking 120mg a day at night.  It does say take it with food.  Perhaps you should take it at mealtime and that would help.  I take mine about and hour after I go to dinner cause they told me to take it at bedtime ..... but I don't eat right before going to bed .......have enough problems with the weight to have a snacky poo right at bedtime.  LOL .. keep with it if its working !!!!!!

Hi,

Possible...here are the major sides:

Constipation 7.3%
Dizziness 3.3%
Nausea 2.7%
Hypotension 2.5%
Headache 2.2%
Edema 1.9%
CHF, Pulmonary edema 1.8%
Fatigue 1.7%
Dyspnea 1.4%
Bradycardia (HR <50/min) 1.4%
AV block total (1°, 2°,3 °) 1.2%
2° and 3° 0.8%
Rash 1.2%
Flushing 0.6%

I just went from 240/day to 480.  I had been on 240 for over 8 years.  The only sides I notice from the increase is constipation (but this could be in conjunction with catapres, which also causes this).  Good luck.

If you'll visit the OUCH site and click on "Surveys" in the top navigation bar, you can view the results of ongoing surveys re verap, both regular and SR.

You'll see that so far constipation and fatigue, both around 25%, are the top two side effects.

Also notice that it only has about a 30% success rate in stopping the headaches.

Been on 720mg/day for the past couple few months, and have noticed no side effects.  Did ya get the precaution paper from your pharamcist about verapamil?  Can't right now think of the things they say to look out for, but you can look it up on http://www.rxlist.com  Just type in verapamil, scroll to the right hit, and you'll get just about as much information as you can get on it.  Good luck!
