I have been having these headaches for a month now and I have been to my Dr and to a neuro Dr . The Neuro Dr thinks I have just a migraine but they are happening at least twice a day and sometimes I average 4 a day. This is becoming a nightmare for me I have been trying all kinds of pills and none seem to help. I have once had O2 and that helped it. But my insurence will not cover O2. How wonderful for me. I have come to the conclusion that sooner or later if I take enough pills that they will go away. Can someone please help me.
Also how long can I expect this to go on. I have been told that they could last from 2 weeks to 2 months and some can go on for a year.

Hi Bulldogg. I'll give ya my best advice here:

1. Take the cluster quiz on the left, if you have any doubts about whether you suffer from clusterheadaches.

2. Try to get the doc to prescribe a preventative med. Verapamil is one of the most effective with the least side effects.

3. 2 posts down from here, Don started a thread '02, doctor won't rx? insurance won't cover?' Check it out and heed Don's advice.

4. Some people use welder's grade O2. Maybe consider this is you have access to it.

5. If you haven't tried Imitrex (injectible)... it is considered one of the most effective abortive meds.

Sorry about that Bulldogg:

Others will have to help you with O2. I'm pretty sure there are some things you can do there. These people know their stuff.

As for your headaches. If they wake you out of a cold sleep or are so intense you cannot sit still or lie down, they are almost certainly clusters. If so, print out the info here and take it to your doctor.

Painkillers take effect too slowly and have little effect in any case. Keep up the good fight and let us know how you're doing.

Welcome to the board! Sorry that the beast is packin' ya cranium full of C4, detonating it, then stickin' the pieces back together with battery acid, only to start the process all over again, usin' a little more C4 each time to try to find the proper amount to blow it all up into nothing but scattered atoms. Welcome to the family!

Ditto the above messages. Use the information on this site to familiarize yourself with abortives and preventatives. May need to discuss alternatives with the neuro. If CH is truly what you have get ready for the ride of your life. Who knows when they will go away or when they will strike again. It a crapshoot.
