Hi, I'm new here and have a few questions for everyone. I have noticed that before a cycle starts I have a big personality change, even before the first pain starts. It's sort of like Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde so to speak. I become irritated and aggravated at everything and I'm usually not that way. It's not a mood swing, it's like being someone else. Does CH affect anyone else like that?

I can't say I had anything like that but maybe. As with epilepsy, perhaps some of us have auras. It wouldn't surprise me.

Know that CH, like epilepsy affects us by making us just a little more unsure of the world and testing our belief that most things make sense. We lose a lot of sleep and are terrified of the next attack. This is something else, but it may make us acutely aware of things.

You may get some interesting replies to this thread.

I've gone though some changes since this cycle started but after the pain started. I've looked back at some of my posts and say "who wrote that ?" I have subjected the group to some pretty stupid posts. I have also noticed that I have memory problems worse than when I was suffering from sleep apnea.

No is basically the answer. I get testy and and don't want to be bothered when I feel a CH coming on but nothing before hand. Now I am 51, going through the change and a bitch to begin with so who would notice a dfference anyway?????

I have memory problems also. When a cluster is in progress I notice that I say things that are really odd. For example - I said something about my cat to one of my friends, and I don't even have a cat! With the pain, I feel disconnected, usually can't make sense of people's words, and say stupid things. I don't notice anything before one hits though.

I don't notice anything before a cycle starts, but once I'm in cycle, hubby says there's a definite personality change. I've even noticed it myself after having a day or 2 pain free and I'm back to wanting to do things and go places and not bitching at anyone who opens their mouth to speak LOL. Of course, I am the one with the t-shirt that says 0-bitch in 4.1 seconds LOL

I always talk to my dog before a cluster hits, but then the cluster ends and I realize I dont have a dog.

Oh well, just one of those cluster traits I guess.

I am laughing about this cause if I didn't I would cry .... while in the worst of my cycle I noticed nothing ... no mood swings, no memory loss ....but of course who the hell would when you are in such pain. Since my cycle has calmed down a bit I notice the memory loss ... its scaring me .... my sister asked me directions the other day that I have done a million and one times ... and I couldn't get it right, someone asked me the other week how long I had been married ..... I had to ask my husband who has never remembered but I knew he had more of a clue than me ......... I think the disorientation more than anytihng has gotten to me .... give me the pain but don't take away my brain !!!!!! I'm gonna try not to let this get me down ... do whatever it takes to get my brain back. I WILL NOT LET THIS GET THE BEST OF ME !!!!!!!! I thought it was lack of sleep when NancyC asked if this could cause brain damamge ... but I don't think it is. Hey, if I remembered that post I ain't that bad off ......smiling again......with no spell checker.

The worse the cycle, the more emotionally numb I became. Since I am intuitive by nature, I would say that I behaved differently. I expect it was due to the stress of having to deal with the anxiety of the pain and the pain itself. Sleep deprivation also had to be a factor. Now I talk to my dog "Guido" before, during, and after an attack---he is REAL. My CH dog, you should all have one. Very comforting.

No, no personality changes that I know of. No significant memory loss either. (at least none that seems related to CH. I have a terrible time with coming up with simple words at times. Like coffee. or some other super simple word. Makes me feel like a fool! but I don't think it is because of the CH) I spend a lot of time exercising my brain though, cuz I am afraid of alzheimers and related stuff.

My wife knows when I'm getting close because I start getting testy and curt. My dog seems to know one is on the way by nuzzling me. If I'm sitting on the floor she will place her forehead against mine and gently push. I know I'm heading that way because little things that normaly don't bother me just plain piss me off. Can't say I have memory lose because I can't remember if I have memory lose.

Dave - memory loss for me is a biggie.....also I don't believe that I have mood swings prior to my cycle...but DEFINITELY during my cycle I'm a totally different person. Some of that I believe is due to the meds and some of it is due to lack of sleep. That's a pretty tough combo to try to remain sane.....

Can't say I experience personality changes-but if I lose a lot of sleep because of ha's-it makes me grumpy, forgetful, and generally aggravated which inevitably trickles down. However, like someone else in this thread said- a menopausal women is unpredictable anyway! :P

I was lucky....come to think of it, having CH and epilepsy stretches things a bit ???

Anyway, becuase I was seeing a neurologist I liked very much, I learned immediately what this horror was. Because I now knew I wasn't dying or being scanned by aliens, and I was able to use his circulatory technique almost immediately, things didn't look so bad. I know I'm and abberation. I don't blame CH for any depression I have.

Damn sorry for you Slammy. I know not planning ahead for your cycle may be tough but maybe it's going to give you a break...you never know.

oh yes! i become very sensitive, short tempered, irritable.i have also had memory problems-repeating myself etc.but then again ive always been a nutcase. >:( ;D
