Title: PLAY BALL! Post by kim on Aug 27th, 2002, 1:24pm Once again we are gathered in our living room, family and friends, to watch the US Open Tennis Championship. This feast of remarkable talents from around the world has been a New York tradition for many decades and has endured throughout changing times as well as social change. This year the Opening Ceremony reflects the triumph of New York, our Country and the strength of the human spirit around the world. One short year ago, that tradition suffered several swift strokes that in a matter of minutes left us doubled over in shock, pain, anguish and anger. Hatred unleashed its mindless violence on all that we hold precious and have struggled long and hard to sustain. On September 11, 2001, terrorists sought to strip the world of grace and dignity. They failed. It is a cherished privilege for talented individuals from around the Globe to come together in the spirit of true sportsmanship through a competition that leaves one winner and many losers, but always ends in a handshake. I watched with appreciation my City-indeed our Country- and the World continue one year later that marvelous tradition, neither defeated nor deterred. Game, Set -- MATCH! Let the games begin! :) |

Title: Re: PLAY BALL! Post by don on Aug 28th, 2002, 7:11am Tennis would be much more interesting if it were a contact sport. Hit the furry little ball, vault the net, and body slam your opponent befor they can hit it back. |

Title: Re: PLAY BALL! Post by Cin on Aug 28th, 2002, 9:24am Kim, you have a way with words. The coming together of players from other countries to the USA and knowing what has happened here just makes me appreciate where we live. Puts a smile on my face, thanks my friend for the words that flow through your fingers. Now go hit that BALL:) Smiles, Cin |

Title: Re: PLAY BALL! Post by Slammy on Aug 28th, 2002, 1:14pm You know Kim, I can't stand watching tennis, but that isn't what your post is about. I've reread your post several times and realize that some things we take for granted. Yet, it has always been under our umbrella of freedom that has given us the ability to take things for granted! Great Post! :-* Slammy 8) |
