Title: I Re: sleep disorders Post by ave on Aug 27th, 2002, 2:37pm Hmmm... I usually sleep a lot less than the recommended 8 hrs, but I always used to, long before clusters. If I go to bed early I'll wake up in the middle of the night, no way to go to sleep agan, so I end up bored out of my skull. I don't get bad dreams much, and I am not afraid to go to sleep, but I have read here that other people get BAAAD dreams leading up to cluster episodes. |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by NancyMcFree on Aug 27th, 2002, 4:16pm Never had a nightmare before a cluster attach .... had one during one though. Never had any problems sleeping other than from the sinus crap I suffer from .... which probably kept the clusters away as I would wake choking on my own "sinus drip" multiple times per night. Wish I had that drip back .... cause now when I go to bed I get some good sleep until ..... you know who comes a knockin !!!! And that's when the nightmare begins. Never had any sleep paralysis either. Sorry. |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by eyes_afire on Aug 27th, 2002, 6:32pm Hey Loserib, I sympathize with you. I have crazy-mad vivid dreams. Sometimes scared to go to sleep due to CH (and sometimes due to dreams) but when I do, REM sleep comes unnaturally fast and often. Sleep paralysis... yes (freeking scary... awake but can't move!). Extremely vivid dreams... yes. Sleep terrors... yes. Acting out dreams... sometimes. My sleep brainwaves are abnormal. |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by catlind on Aug 27th, 2002, 6:35pm Yes I have sleep disorders. Sleep Apnea in the highest degree, called a code blue on me once when I was in the hospital cause I quit breathing for so long LOL. I woke up and wondered what the hell all the fuss was about. When they decided to do the sleep study on me they discovered that I spent less (far less) than the average person in REM sleep. Go figure, I've been a medical anomaly all my life. My mother is blood type O+ my father is A- and I'm a manufactured type O- Maybe they should just dissect me and figure out what all these funky things are all about LOL Cat |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by oringkid on Aug 28th, 2002, 12:12am loserib, are you talking about night terrors? If so, night terrors are very different than being afraid of sleeping. Night terrors are usually experienced by children and are frightning to anyone who witnesses them. Usually the person experiencing them does not awaken and does not remember anything about them. The person screams and cries and sometimes sweats profusely and thrashes about and if you try to calm them you can get hurt, even by a child. The person then suddenly calms and resumes normal sleep. My daughter, when she was younger, had them a couple of times when she was ill. I have never had them. Sleep paralysis I am not familiar with. Although when I nap I sometimes get into what I call a dream trap. I dream I am asleep and I cannot wake up. I try my hardest to wake up and can't move any part of my body. I feel like if I could just jerk or move a part of my body that I could wake up, but I can't move. It is very frightning. I avoid naps for just that reason. Sherry |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by catlind on Aug 28th, 2002, 7:06am Sherry, I've witnessed Alex my oldest have a night terror when he was 2, he was even afraid of us, it was the most frightening experience I can remember with him. (outside of major damage to his body LOL) I've also had your 'dream traps' and no matter how hard you try you can't wake up, it's like the sub conscious and conscious are at war with each other and won't let either take control. I hate when that happens as I can usually control my dream state, i.e. if I'm having a nightmare I can control what happens in it, change the outcome etc. Learned that is a very unusual and rare ability when I was in the sleep study hehe. Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by Mastifflvr28 on Aug 28th, 2002, 9:04am Kaleb has had nite terrors since he was a baby, finally outgrew them at around 4 years old. Scared the CRAP out of me when I was sound asleep. Sounded like someone was ripping his arms off...either that, or quick clusters, LOL. We were in a restaraunt once when he was around 6 months old, and he was asleep, so I layed him down next to me on the booth seat. He had a nite terror in the restaraunt, screamed bloody murder for about 20 seconds, then immediately started laughing. Slept for another 2 hours after that, lol. We got some interesting "looks" across the restaruant. I have not sleeping disorders...so, I dunno why I'm contributing here, guess the nite terrors interested me :) Mast |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by oringkid on Aug 28th, 2002, 11:03am Cat, about the dream control. I have been practicing that for years. I have gotten much better at it. You have to really practice though if you are not naturally able to do it. You have to tell yourself that you can control your dreams before you go to sleep. And then in order to control them you have to be aware that you are dreaming and in control. After much practice, I am able to control about 85% of mine. I love dreaming, there is nothing you can't do in dreams! Sherry |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by BobG on Aug 28th, 2002, 12:01pm Cat, about the dream control. I also do that. I thought it was normal because I've always been able to. One morning a while back my wife said she'd had had a very scarry nightmare. I said "If you didn't like the way the dream was headed why didn't you change it to something more pleasant?" or remind yourself "It's only a dream. Don't sweat it. You're not really falling. Just go along with it and see if you really do hit the sidewalk." She thought I was nuts and said so. Just by coincidence a few days later there was a little blurb on the TV news about controlling dreams. Then my wife believed me. A b.i.t.c.h. on TV says something so it must be true. If I said the same thing, I'm nuts. Go figure............... |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by catlind on Aug 28th, 2002, 12:13pm Sherry, that's kewl. I guess I just have a natural ability for it, because I've never had to practice or tell myself I can control it, I just do. The first time I remember doing it was when I was about 6 or 7 and kept having the same bad dream several nights in a row and finally changed the dream to end differently. In fact I can still vividly remember the exact dream and tell it in detail. The shrinky dinks that did the sleep study on me attributed the dream control to the lack of time I spend in REM sleep....who knows, I don't trust of any of em anymore LOL. When it comes to docs, they have to prove themselves to me before I believe a word outta their mouths ;) Cat |

Title: Re: sleep disorders Post by Drk^Angel on Aug 28th, 2002, 12:56pm I think everyone has the ability to control their dreams... Just that most aren't immediately aware of it. PFDAN............................. Drk^Angel |
