Title: Re: Attn: puter peeps (not CH related) Post by sailpappy on Aug 24th, 2002, 3:39pm Jonny, you can check and see if the laptop has a network card,Most do I think it's called an RJ-45 Ethernet card, If so all you have to do is go get a router and network them together Pretty simple stuff, you have to assign the primary address to your main system and then use the same address and just add an a to the first then a b to the second ip address and the roughter will keep the signals from colliding with each other. Should have gotten the Sony as they all come with just about erverything you need, or Gateway has a great-back to school deal going with a laptop for $999.00 with an additional $100.00 mail in rebate Let me know if you need help, the documentation with the roughter should talk you through the process with ease-Pappy |

Title: Re: Attn: puter peeps (not CH related) Post by Drk^Angel on Aug 24th, 2002, 8:27pm Like Pappy said... If ya have a network card in the laptop, ya can do some home networking. It would require additional equipment, which isn't necessarily too cheap... If all you need is AOL... It'd be cheaper to buy a magazine that has the AOL CD glued to the inside cover... If ya still wanna network the two puter's together, there's a few different ways to do it. The easiest way is to buy a DSL/Cable router ethernet hub. Ya plug the network cable from the cable gateway, to the designated port in the router, then plug the network cables from your 'puters to the other ports. The instructions that come with the router will explain the details. If ya have WinNT/2K or WinXP Pro in your 'puter, then you just need to install a second network card into your 'puter, and attach a special cable between the laptop and the 'puter, and set your 'puter to act as an NAT router. If this is what you want to do, let me know, and I can give you further details. PFDAN...................... Drk^Angel |

Title: Re: Attn: puter peeps (not CH related) Post by jonny on Aug 24th, 2002, 8:42pm Thank you, both of you....heres where I stand. D/L'ed Aol setup onto a disk and installed it on the laptop, can now get AOL but cant get out onto the net from there, AOL (after 8 calls) says I need to install the latest version of IE so I D/L that onto a disc, trying to install it tells me that its unable to obtain info from instillation site but if I know my current proxy settings I can over ride it. WHAT THE FUCK IS A PROXY>>>>>>>LMMFAO? .................jonny |

Title: Re: Attn: puter peeps (not CH related) Post by Drk^Angel on Aug 24th, 2002, 8:51pm The IE setup file that you download from Micro$oft can only be installed if the 'puter you're installin' it on is connected to the internet. Micro$oft did it so that you don't have to d/l the entire installation, and keep the d/l to a mimimum, but it's a real pain in the arse when you try to install to a 'puter that's not connected. Not sure where ya can get a copy of the full version of IE6. PFDAN...................... Drk^Angel |
