Oh Yeah! I finally went to the doc and got myself some drugs! The only thing about this one that I am taking now is that I feel like I'm drunk. I am on this one for a week and then I get put on something else. Thank god I finally have something. I didn't think I was gonna make it through last night!

Great to hear you're finally getting treatment! So what meds are ya bein' chained to? Plenty here will be able to give you information on the effectiveness and precautions on them. Good luck!

Hey thanks. I am glad also. I am taking cyproheptadine at the moment. I am not sure if it is working or not at the moment.

Hi Owl,

godd luck with the cyproheptadine. It has been known to cause "sedated" feeling - LOL. Anyway, did you talk to the doc about the oxygen???

yeah, I told her about that, but she said it wouldn't work on me. She wan't to try and get ahead of em so I can prevent em.

Night Owl,

Did your doctor give you a legitimate reason for not even TRYING Oxygen?? I am very surprised she would just dismiss it altogether.... It would be wonderful if she could find a way to prevent your clusters from happening, but what about when the pain breaks through??

Make sure, that you stand your ground, on getting the best treatment possible, and all avenues explored.

Oh.....ok....
I am wondering why she could be THAT confident of the preventative. Normally, a doc will get you going with a preventative but it is common to prescribe abortive along with it. Lots of people here will tell you that most times preventatives take a while to kick in and break throughs are common.

He gave you ONLY cyproheptadyne?
It is an antihistaminic and antiserotonergic (and for CH, only the serotonin side is good). The antihistaminic side surely give you a good.... negative shock.... ;D

No preventatives like verapamil? Lithium?
No attack "killers" like Oxygen, Imitrex.... at least other tryptans via oral or ehm ... suppositories?

Seems me a bit with stretched boundaries as a cure.

Yeah, I am just on this for a week while she finds something better. I have to take some tests and then she will prescribe something stronger.

Go to every website you can find on CH's and print out as much material as you can and give it to your doctor in a file.........she needs some education. My Dr. was thrilled when I gave her the info. She read a lot of it while I sat there and then prescribed O2, Imitrex and pred for me. I feel a whole lot better than I did a week ago. The Ch's are still here but much more manageable.

I'd have to say she is grasping at pink elephants in the air. Don't let her play with your head. We CH'rs don't have time to play guessing games and mess with tests that don't tell us shit. OK- go through the gamet, but get a doctor that will listen and give you ALL the right stuff to start with. The doc is at home sleeping peacefully, not even thinking about your pain.
Sorry for going off, I get annoyed thinking about all the doctors I have gone through, and continue to go through. Unfortunately, we need them, usually, to get the damn meds. Don't let them dismiss you because you are young.

You doctor should allow you to try everything for CH. O2 won't kill you and it might work. Bitch like hell and good luck.

I just wont to add my medications for breaking out of cycle.But remember that i`m not a doc,just another clusterhead from Norway

Verapamil Retard 120mgX5-7/daily during cycle
Oxygene alone at 10ltm for 15 minutes or combined with imitrex-shots does miracles.The shots should start working in 6-9minutes.a few seconds after that you are almost painfree
Prednisolone in high doze for 10 days 80mg
then over a 3 weeks periode step down like 60-40-30-20-10-5mg /daily

This is the miraclecure for me,but i`m not a doc.just another clusterhead from Norway
