Title: This is just friggen great!!! Post by echo on Aug 20th, 2002, 10:55am Taking Lipitor for high cholesterol due to mine being just shy of an egg yolk and now it's under control. However, now my hair is falling out in clumps. Fucking great! No idea if it will return either. I look like I have mange. I didn't mind when my hair turned grey, I just didn't want it to turn loose. Was hair lose listed as a side effect - NO. However, new search of the data base by the doc confirmed that I came in as the #2 victim. I feel so special. At least for the time being the mustashe is staying. I havn't seen my lip since 1970 and would prefer to keep it covered. I'll shut the hell up now. |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by SFChris on Aug 20th, 2002, 11:04am Echo, Jeez - sorry to hear about it. It's the first time I've heard about hair loss and lipitor. It's a very popular drug, and I'll bet others will be interested in the effects. But, being bald is probably better than being dead... As you say in your posts "This too shall past". Best o' luck |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by NancyMcFree on Aug 20th, 2002, 11:15am OMG you gave me my laugh of the day. If it helps any, bald is beautiful anymore ... people shave their heads just to be in style. Heck, my sister-in-law shaved her head while pregnant just not to have the "bother" of washing, blow drying, etc. And to tell you the truth ... while I thought she looked better with hair I didn't love her none the less without it !!!!!! I think her bald head is growing on me (no pun intended). Best wishes for a hair free/pain fee day !!!!! |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by kim on Aug 20th, 2002, 11:19am echo, so sorry. that does not sound fun. Hang in there. I felt the same way when began growing hedges on chin. ;D Bad enough being on medicine. I think 40s should be illegal. ;) Hoping you are pain free! Smiles, Kim |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by NancyMcFree on Aug 20th, 2002, 11:23am Echo, I know I laughed at first but I am only looking for something to laugh at. Really, I do feel you frustration at not being the person you used to be ..... but then are any of us the person we used to be once we start with the CH ???????? Hoping you can find the laughter in this as well as all the other trials we have to endure. |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by oringkid on Aug 20th, 2002, 1:26pm Maybe you should check into one of the alternative cholesterol treatments. I think there are new ones. Once you stop it, it may grow back. But, if it doesn't, Nancy is right. Bald is beautiful! I know, my husband is just about there. I like him to cut whats left really, really short. I think it is very sexy! Sherry |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by echo on Aug 20th, 2002, 1:50pm My fear is that this Minnesota boy with his repeatedly frozen ears will, when bald, look like a antenna dished solor panel coming in for a landing. Looked at one of the other meds. Zolcore -- side effects include: hair loss, insomnia, liver damage, lose of sex drive, impotence (now there's the side effect all males in their late 40's hope for), might as well throw in a serious case of zits just for giggles. Shit -- Just shoot me!! |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by Jim R on Aug 20th, 2002, 2:22pm Uh oh bro - I'm male, 47, live in the north (a la frozen ears as a kid), and on lipitor - gotta run to go check in the mirror! LOL No, seriously - maybe it's just temporary? I know....the side effects for all these drugs are scary, especially the one that seems to be on all of them - impotence. Hope it's a fluke and it'll grown back PFDANs to you. Jim R |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by NancyMcFree on Aug 20th, 2002, 3:24pm You said ...."look like a antenna dished solor panel coming in for a landing". I don't know about the rest of you but star wars has always turned me on. Take it easy and smile .... we love ya with or without hair ..... and I bet anyone you really care about does too !!!!!! :P ;) :) :o 8) :-* You want to talk about love ..... since my attacks have started my eye has totally gone into the left side of my head (yea, I had a lazy eye when this started but geez now it is so far off I can see behind me). My husband just tells me I have a rear view mirror now !!!!!! If he is coming up behind me I AM IN THE KNOW !!!!!! LOL. There are worse things in life ..... sometimes its just hard to think of them. |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by echo on Aug 20th, 2002, 4:08pm Thanks for the uplifting responses. You're truly a great family to be associated with. Maybe at this point of my life I'm too sexy for my hair. Naw - probably not but wishful thinking. Wait a minute. I'll shave my head and get a new tatoo. I'll get one of myself only bigger! Nancy -- Far enough in to see behind you - LOL Jim R : It happened quickly. I had a clump the size of a quarter fall out sometime within a 2 hour window. Was on the drug for about 5 weeks. Now I've got holes everywhere and thinning quickly. |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by jimbo on Aug 20th, 2002, 5:39pm Hey Echo, How high was your chol? About 5 years ago when I was 34 I had mine checked by my doc. because of the family history of heart probs. At the time it was 315 Ever since, I have been taking a 1/2 dose of Zocor 20mg. daily and my chol. count has been 160 ever since with a ratio of 3.6 to 1 He is extremely happy about that! The good thing is I can eat whatever I want and it doesn't seem to change the counts! He asks me if I'm watching my diet and I say yes. ;D HeHe. I guess I'm lucky in some ways. I get checked every 3 mo. (Lipid panel) and everything seem to be fine. Zocor is something you might want to check out. Hair loss. NO (At least the hairline hasn't gotten any higher in the last 5 years anyway) I believe the politically correct term for it is Folicly Challenged. The best part is, the plumbing is working just fine 8) Remember: God is good, God is fair Some he gave brains, others hair! 8) Seeya, Jimbo........... |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by jonny on Aug 20th, 2002, 6:30pm OOOOOOH!!!!!! Can I take that as a stab at me, Jimbo? I love my hair and always titled myself as a dumbass so I guess we are cool......LOL ;D Echo, stop taking that shit and find something else that will work without the sideffect. ..................jonny |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by NancyMcFree on Aug 20th, 2002, 7:17pm Ok Echo, I am looking in my rear view mirror ... I see a bald man approaching ... with a big tatoo of the "little mermaid" ..... is that you ????? LOL |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by Tom on Aug 20th, 2002, 7:37pm Hi Echo, Lipitor = atorvastatin / Zocor = simvastatin. As all the meds of the statin group have ±the same side effects, changing from Lipitor to Zocor would probably fruit nothing... I myself had a Bald Head for ±17 years and a Cluster Head for ±14 years now...and I can tell: - Having a Bald Head is bad - Having a Cluster Head is worse - Having both a Bald Head a n d a Cluster Head is the worst ! Wish you ATB for both varieties ! Thomas |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by catlind on Aug 20th, 2002, 7:56pm Echo, when they tested Clark's cholesterol his was off the scale, a whopping 498. His father died suddenly of a massive coronary at age 40 so they figure his is hereditary and he takes gemfibrozil, not sure of the brand name of that, but after the first few weeks of being tired, everything was back to normal, and no hair loss and his triglycerides are back to about 115. Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by Drk^Angel on Aug 21st, 2002, 2:51am Just shave it... It'll save ya time time in the shower (especially with not having to pick the hair out of the drain). PFDAN................ Drk^Angel |

Title: Re: This is just friggen great!!! Post by echo on Aug 21st, 2002, 11:28pm You people are the greatest!! Thanks for the additional information. Dr. wants me to wait another 3 weeks to be sure. So I countered with "Fine, now it's time for me to shave parts of your head so you can understand what it feels like". "Then we take off the chest and groin hair for added weirdness". The bastard held firm and actually thought I would continue with the Lipitor. So, as loudly as I could, in front of the waiting patients, I fired his ass for incompetence and uncaring actions towards his patient. I'll find another later in the week. No longer on Lipitor. Shaving my head this weekend. Thanks for the laughs everyone. This BITES. |
