Title: heat and humidity triggers Post by rzim on Aug 13th, 2002, 2:05pm Hi all. I'm new to the site, but unfortunately not new to CH. When my headaches first started, I only got them between June and September. I live in NY so summerime. Three summers ago, something changed and they didn't stop. After being treated for sinusitis for three or four summers, I finally saw a neurologist after an alergist said this seemed to be CH. To make a long story shorter, I have a sense that heat and humidity can be a trigger. Whenever I get overheated, have done something like play tennis, the headache comes on. Has anyone else experienced a trigger like this? Or heard anything about the effect of heat and humidity, or exercise? I could be out playing golf and by the 12th hole, the CH starts. It only happens though when it is hot and humid! Help ???? |

I do know that heat & humidity ar indeed triggers for me...so I have been extra careful to stay indoors when the heat is really bad...or spent hours floating in the pool...when I start to feel the "burn" of a h/a coming.. i make sure & totally submerge my head right away..that indeed seems to ward it off (so far)..anything that works..right?? lol Huggzzz Shari |

I live in NY (state) as well, and was out horseback riding with my daughter this afternoon and it was hot and humid (and damn dusty) and sure as shit, on the way home I got hit. By the time I got home (a 30 min. drive) I was headed straight for a cold shower and my O2 (which isn't the right flow) and I was wondering all the way home if the heat and humidity or the exertion was a trigger. Guess maybe it is. Full blown kip 10 from that one....my puppy's stuffed puppy took a severe beating tonight LOL. It's finally subsided to a 7 but hey, that's a hell of a lot better than a 10. Cat |

The ones I remember were particularly HIDEOUS. Rzim, I've had an attack come on while on the Tennis court in summertime. Not fun. That was actually one of the few times I threw up from ch. I waited too long (denial?) until too late and combo of the pain, STRESS of the attack, and HEAT made me sick to my stomach. If you feel attack coming on in the heat, my advice is to get the hell outa there to somewhere COLD FAST! ;) Don't know if it's a TRIGGER, but sure does not help the situation. Hang in there. BUT, as a chronic sufferer I do find that my ha's are worse when it is cloudy & rainy (thus the humidity). |

Ya just gotta watch out for the little hairs in yer nose...they fry! LOL Seriously, it is a whole different world to have heat without humidity. When I lived in VA 100 degrees with 89% humidity would feel like an elephant was sitting on your chest. But out here it is more like sitting in front of a furnace. Dry hot heat. Sherry |

Although, I installed a kick-ass hot tub about two years ago, and have only used it a few times in the past 7 months because of this cycle. It triggers an instant 8/9 for me. (Even though that doesn't make this offically a post from a NY'er Kim, I'll do a shot of tequila for ya anyway..hell, I'll do a couple ;D ) Since I moved here, my ch have been better, coming less often and the ones that do show have been less severe for the most part, and it is seriously fucking hot and humid all day, every day. Although, I do tend to stay inside all day, with the central air blasting, eating bon bons, watching the Home and Garden Network, thinking up things for Den to do when he gets home from work, playing lotto scratch offs....come to think of it...Texas rules!...or maybe just having a sugar daddy rules...OK, I hereby declare that the cure for cluster headaches is finding yerself a sugar daddy/momma of yer own...make sure they are qualified...I can not be held responsible if you choose a crackhead... some possible qualifications to consider: - must be willing to live in filth, unless they want to clean it themselves and not b i t c h about it - must be willing to run to the store at any time of the day or night to satisfy some quirky craving you might be having (this also should apply to pharmacy runs) -must be willing to supply you with movies, lotto scratch off tickets, trinkets from gumball machines, anything you want from the grocery store, and nifty little things they get from work..and change because you just love to play with that change machine seperator spinny thing -must be willing to satisfy any and all sexual desires you have..again at any time of the day or night -must be limber -must be willing to buy your favorite kind of ice cream, not theirs -must have nifty little tools to play with, like cheese slicers and those flashlights that go on yer head -must put up with a various range of music they may not necessarily like, like disco, opera, and disney soundtracks -must be incredibly silly and fun -must be able to fix everything that breaks and make it all better, even your hello kitty toothbrush -must be willing to sit on the floor of the bathroom while you soak in a long, hot bath, to keep you company and talk about random shit -must be willing to drive 30+ minutes to look at a field of wildflowers -must be willing to stand in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night while you try to contact bigfoot -must be willing to massage your body for an unlimited amount of time when you say you hurt and/or snuggle you at your discretion -must be willing to hold you when you cry cuz the mean old lady at the store wouldn't cash your check and your tooth hurts -must be willing to lay very still in total darkness while you perform your world reknowned light show with glowsticks -must at least consider allowing you to get chickens as pets -must be Den....uhhh...I guess this list applies only to me...but some of the stuff might work for you too I expect to hear your results. Driving home from work (5.30 to 6pm) I always overused the heater in my car. During a cycle I am sure that this triggered the 8.30 to 9.00 ch. Note: she was a full blooded blond........not a f*ckin' spec of brain in her lovely head) We had dated thru most of high school and after my first year of college we were married. She came from a family that had money. Her mother's side owned funeral homes in Long Island (a lot of people die back there, or at least wish they could) and her father owned 3 very successful liquor stores. Can you see where this is going? A big boobed blond, rich mother and daddy owned a liquor store. But, unfortunately, as these things sometime do, we split after a few years. Haven't seen her in 25 years (just as well, she was beginning to look like her mother even then...........yukkk!). But, Damn, I still miss her father. |
