Title: CH Med contest........... Post by don on Aug 10th, 2002, 9:24am I am now another year older. Know what that means? It means I have not suffered CH for 26 years, now it is 27 years. If you can name a CH med I have NOT tried you will win; An all expense paid weekend with Jack (Swing Blade) at the Diner of Hub's choice. Hub can't be there. He is still being extradited from Samolia. He hasn't done anything. Samolian officials just want him gone and no country will extradite him. He keeps hitting on Sally Fields and eating her lunch. |

Also on the "did not work" list was Inderal, Ergostat (I think...Ergo something anyway) Imitrex nasal and some other easily forgotten migraine med. Then I said hell with it and went back to my icepacks. I'm trying O2 and tissues up the nose for my next cycle. And maybe capsaicin. |

Post by sailpappy on Aug 10th, 2002, 8:28pm ;D ;D Don, Aside from headaches caused by blood pressure, Clonidine,Not chlonodine main use is for ,Well I'll just quote the source! Doctors also prescribe Catapres for alcohol, nicotine, or benzodiazepine (tranquilizer) withdrawal; migraine headaches; smoking cessation programs; Tourette's syndrome (tics and uncontrollable utterances); narcotic/methadone detoxification; premenstrual tension; and diabetic diarrhea. Title: Re: CH Med contest........... Post by don on Aug 12th, 2002, 12:39pm Cocaine was the only abortive that worked for my CH. It also aborted my personality, spirit, bank account, employment, relationships, etc. etc. etc. |

Title: Re: CH Med contest........... Post by Cry-or-die on Aug 12th, 2002, 1:11pm ACTH=adrenocorticotropic hormone secreted from the anterior pituitary and stimulates the adrenal cortex. The levels of ACTH are controlled using a built in negative feedback loop within the brain by the hypothalamus which releases another hormone to tell the anterior pituitary to stop making the ACTH. Stress is a big part of the activation of this cycle. Lots of info on the net if you are at all interested in biology as I am. I fail to see the relationship between ch and too much/little ACTH. Am I missing sumpin? I guess this makes Christine the next runner up for a dinner with swing blade ;D |
||
Title: Re: CH Med contest........... Post by ChristineL on Aug 12th, 2002, 3:05pm I have no idea what the correlation is between ACTH and CH's - all I know is that 12 years ago when I was chronic and nothing else was working the New England Headache Center started giving me ACTH injections once a week. After about a month, all of a sudden the CH's stopped and until 3 weeks ago I hadn't had even one little one. Chris L |

Title: Re: CH Med contest........... Post by oringkid on Aug 12th, 2002, 4:17pm Hypothalamus is the key. Damn Christine, what did you do 3 wks ago. Really, think about it. Did you start taking a new med, any med, even an otc? Did you eat something that you haven't in 12 years? Did you do, or smell or bruise something that you haven't in 12 years?? This could be significant! All of you that have started again after a prolonged (over 5 years) period of remission, search your brains, what did you do, right before the onset that you haven't done since your remission began. It could be anything! No matter how silly it might seem. Let's hear from you! I have a niggling (an old expression, I know) feeling that this is simpler than we might expect. Sherry |

Title: Re: CH Med contest........... Post by ChristineL on Aug 12th, 2002, 4:32pm Sherry, I have been wracking my brain but with senior moments arriving more often daily trying to remember an hour ago is sometimes tough - ;D The ONLY thing I come up with is a tremendous amount of work at the office for about a month prior. Seemed everything was happening at once and I was working long days and nights but in my line of work stress is an everyday affair. I have been much mored stressed and overworked in the past but .............???????????? Today I thought about Iced Tea. I have been drinking tons of it these past few months since it got hot. Maybe all that caffeine? Chris L |

Title: Re: CH Med contest........... Post by oringkid on Aug 12th, 2002, 5:15pm I don't think it is the caffeine. Caffeine, at least in hot black coffee actually helps my CH's. Slammy, you better add the You Ess Of Aye to that husbands catagory cuz I am from there! ;D Sherry ;D |
