Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by Dan H on Aug 27th, 2002, 5:41pm Just be my luck that If I were in the study. I would be in a full kip10.. and I would be the one who gets the placebo. Would have to go through the CH. After4 hours of intense pain... then they ask you to fill out a form as to how well the med worked... ::) .....Dan H |

Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by gtar_man on Aug 29th, 2002, 12:34pm Either that, or I'd get the real thing and it would turn out to generate the side effect of having yer reproductive organ shrivel and fall off... :o Shoot, since I became a Clusterhead, eating and sex (not necessarily at the same time) are the only things I still enjoy doing... ;D |

Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by Tony_W on Sep 3rd, 2002, 4:37pm Its a pity that the trial is only being run in the USA what about the rest of the world? |

Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by Massattack on Sep 4th, 2002, 2:02am I live in Holland. 3 years ago I was approached for the same trial. It is sumatriptan nasal spray vs placebo trial. I did not sign up for this trial. Only Glaxo Smith Kline and the participating doctors and clinics get better from this trial, NOT YOU!!!! (Glaxo pays a lot to participating doctors and clinics!) They only need test results for insurance companies, NHS etc to prove (what they already know!!) that nasal sumatriptan also is effective in fighting Cluster Headache pain and so they can have official indication to prescribe nasal sumatriptan with CH and only with indication insurance companies will pay for the medicine. It is only about selling more sumatriptan and not in the interest of wellbeing Clusterheadache suffererers. Migraine and Clusterheadache are big money for the industrie! |

Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by Qazpur on Sep 4th, 2002, 5:11am Unfortunately Massattack is probably right in this regard. Clinical trials organized on a large scale basis need to be funded by large scale money, usually with a commercial bias. On the positive side, every trial (and the bigger, the better) concerning CH has the benefit of bringing attention to our plight. At present I believe some of the best medical information available in the world can be gleaned from this MB and website - medical professionals studying the illness could learn a lot simply by analyzing the personal experiences related here. |

Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by Drk^Angel on Sep 4th, 2002, 4:25pm Ummmmmm... I believe you are wrong Massattack... I believe this clinical trial is for zicapsacin, and in the US, a drug needs to have sufficient trials to be approved by the FDA, and be able to market the drug. Zicapsacin is the first drug to be directly developed for cluster headaches, and these trials may help further understanding about cluster headaches, and meds geared specifically for clusterheads. If we turn our backs on the clinical trials, we are not going to find any support from the drug companies, because they'll decide that they're wasting their money on us. Yes, GlaxoSmithKline makes alot of money off their migraine meds, but if not for these trials geared towards clusterheads, we'll never get anywhere with proper treatment of our condition. PFDAN.............................. Drk^Angel |

Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by SFChris on Sep 4th, 2002, 6:28pm FYI - the sponser is Winston Labs, not Glaxo Smith Kline. The drug is a pepper based spray (I'm embarrassed that I don't recall the name - it's something like Civiamide). |

Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by kari on Sep 4th, 2002, 6:44pm I signed up for the clinical trial, if I get another cycle in the next 12 months. It may not work for me, but I feel it is a pro-active step to take, at least I am trying to aid in the research, as Dk Angel said. |

Title: Re: Cluster Headache Clinical Trial! Post by nutty2chat on Sep 5th, 2002, 8:29pm The doctor at the clinic in Cincinatti used to be my nuero. He is really good. He is very interested in helping to find a cure. He wasn't accepting new patients when I called him, but he wanted a female cluster patient in on some studies that he was doing. He is really great. I don't know about this study, but if Dr. Nicholas is involved it can't be all bad. |
