Title: Re: West coast people need info Post by Slammy on Aug 7th, 2002, 3:59pm Bahahaha! Bill! If Slammy was a good boy, he'd tell ya all the cool places to hit on the West Coast...... :D Well, not much of a Northern California fan... but Fisherman's Wharf is a must see in San Francisco. I don't know how much time you are taking, but if you are in leisure mode... drive down the coast using Highway 1 vs using the 5 or 101. Going down HWY 1 (Pacific Coast Highway or PCH), you can hit Carmel ( Pebble BEach and 17 mile drive), and Monterey ( Sea Aquarium). Drive along the picturesque coast-line of Big Sur down to Pismo Beach. Then you can hit Hearst Castle in Cambria and the wineries of Santa Ynez. Take the 101 from Cambria through Sanat Ynez valley and you will run into a small Danish village town called Solvang ( cool food and shops). Oops, you just drove past Bob P.'s place..... heh Gotta hit Santa Barbara, and now you're getting in Slammy's stomping grounds! ;D Slammy 8) |

Title: Re: West coast people need info Post by Bob P on Aug 7th, 2002, 4:34pm If you do visit Hearst Castle or the San Luis Obispo area, let me know. Love to have lunch with ya. I work in San Luis but live in Los Osos on the south end of Morro Bay. Slammy is right, the area between San Francisco and here, via Hwy 1 is about as good as it gets. |

Title: Re: West coast people need info Post by SFChris on Aug 12th, 2002, 10:50am Nancy, Mt Tamalpias (Mt. Tam to locals) and Stinson Beach are about 10 minutes North of the Golden Gate Bridge. Amazingly beautiful area. Muir Woods is there as well - home of the Redwoods. Chris |

Title: Re: West coast people need info Post by stevek on Aug 16th, 2002, 2:10pm Bill, I don’t know how much time you have to make the drive, but my general comment is the coast is beautiful but the road is slow. I5 is the quickest route and the least scenic. 101 through northern California is slow also, after Santa Rosa it is about as fast as I5 but is a more pleasant drive. As mentioned above PCH from SF to SLO is very nice. SF is a great city to visit; I miss living near there. Vancouver is a nice city too, I like it almost as much as SF (they are my two favorite cites in the west). I have done the drive from BC to Santa Barbara several times so if I can help let me know. Take care, Stevek |
