Title: Oxygen Flow Rate Question Post by Margi on Feb 16th, 2002, 4:18pm Hi Folks, Bob Baker has asked me what the proper flow rate is for his dad to be using on his O2. He's currently at 11 lpm, but I'm thinking that I read here somewhere that 15 was the norm? Mike uses welders' O2 without a regulator (I know I know, read all the cautions, yada yada, but it works for him), so I am not real informed about how the regulators work. Ted? Jonny? Paco? Bob? Kip? Anyone? Can we help young Bob help his dad here? Thanks, everyone. |

Title: Re: Oxygen Flow Rate Question Post by jonny on Feb 16th, 2002, 4:28pm Using a non-rebreather mask he should be using 9-12 lpm or whatever he can breath. what you want to do is empty the bag and when you take the next breath the bag is full, that will be the right setting. It differs, small lungs, big lungs----you know Hope this helps. |

Title: Re: Oxygen Flow Rate Question Post by Bob_P on Feb 16th, 2002, 5:14pm My O2 dude could only get me a regulator that went to 8 lpm max. 8 was enough for me. At times I could even crank it down to 71/2 or 7 and get by. |

Title: Re: Oxygen Flow Rate Question Post by Frank on Feb 16th, 2002, 5:19pm Check E-bay. My sister got me a "D" size tank and 0-15 LPM regulator for $30.00 a couple of years ago. Best Christmas present ever. |

Title: Re: Oxygen Flow Rate Question Post by Ted on Feb 16th, 2002, 7:52pm 8-10 l p/m is what's recommended. But, that's only a book answer. The real-world answer is exactly what Jonny said. That's what I recommend. Adjust the setting so it can mostly empty the bag and by the time he's done exhaling the bag should be full again. |
