I am having a bout with headaches after about five years of nothing. This one is lasting about two months so far. I just discovered this message board. I frequently have what I describe as a "fog" or "funk" in my head. It feels a little like a constant hangover despite not drinking alcohol. I get bad headache episodes at night and sometimes during the day. I am curious whether anyone else has this fog or funk of a general pain or "heaviness" during the day?
Thanks for your help. I am so happy to have found this board. I was on prednisone and found some relief with lidocaine through the nose. My doctor now wants me to start amitriptelyene but I am nervous about having to take a pill every day.

Welcome to the madhouse. If you stick around you'll find some good ideas about handling this horror.
I can't say I felt like Iwas having a hangover or was foggy (other than what I've experienced for 57 years) but I know the things wore me out most of the time.

I never had a hangover feeling or type of HA without actually having a hangover...
I do get shadows which can last for quite a long time (sometimes preceeding an attack) but they are different from a HA associated with a hangover. Totally different feeling for me.

I get that heaviness feeling a lot - like a cloud of dull pain or pressure behind my eye, or on the side of my head, which hurts, but doesn't. I have to work really hard to RELAX about it, because it tends to wind me up in anxiousness and bring on the beast - especially if I'm not near the 02 tank.
The worst is when I'm teaching a class...I'm just loathe to say - go home, I have a bad one coming on...They get joy from my pain...heh heh...

Welcome to CH.com, Lots of good Info here and at OUCH.com, Sorry ur in pain and hope ya find relief soon. You describe your hangover like i would describe a shadow, People around here refer to that as a shadow, I think!

Thank you all for your help. Can someone explain more about these shadows? I would like to know the details of what they feel like so I can tell if this is actually what I am describing. Right now it is 10.43 p.m. and I have a general pain in my head. I know I can get to sleep with it, but I am also certain that in a few hours it will intensify and wake me up. It lingers there all the time waiting, it seems, to strike.
Does this make sense to you folks?

That is exactly what i would call a shadow. Mine come after the initial CH, and hang around till the next bout of the CH, or i might get a break from the CH but then start shadowing leading into my next CH. Its just kind of like a Migraine leading into a CH.
