FEAR and CH

Hi, I have a great fear of the next batch od CH's. My fear is almost as bad as the CH itself. When will the next one happen, how bad will it be, how long will it last? I am scared of them. When they are gone I don't think of them often and don't pray them away often enough. I had read the starting and ending age of CH and thought I had reached the end of mine. I had been through everything that should start one, if anything does, and thought I was in the clear. (born 04-15-1944) Now I read that they start in the teens and last til the 60's. Not longer? Does that mean the CH goes away or do the people that suffer? Mine started back in Feb. 2003 and persisted until I had rotary cuff surgery. I am sure that if the CH had started during surgery I would have awakend, wouldn't that be fun! I have not had any since then and do not worry a lot right now. If they should start again, I will worry and depending on the duration, strength and frequency I will make some decision. I will not be intimitaded forever, nor will I suffer the unreal pain. I have gone thru this since 1971, peaking in 1985. When you walk into an emergency room and tell them the only reason you are there is you were afraid that the noise of the gun going off might hurt too much before it stopped they rush you in and give you morphine. The first and only time and the first and only time of an out of body experience. They rushed me to a cool dark room, gave me a shot and a button to push if I needed anything else. I did and they gave me the second shot. I floated up out of my body, looking down on the red mass of pain. As it eased I floated back down into my body and went home. Had to be to the Dr's office early the next AM, and had the worst hangover I can imagine. How does this end? Does it quit, or do we? feel free to contact me: gsedahl@yahoo.com Thanks!

Welcome, I am glad you found this site of information, understanding and support...you are not alone with the fear, but knowledge and support go a long way to giving us the strength to deal with CH...You have not given information on what you have been taking, etc...About the best support I can give you right now is to read read read the links to the left and know we are here to share, answer questions on personal experience, and let you vent...CH is a varied and unpredictable condition and we each have to find our own way of coping...Knowing we are not alone makes that much easier...Wishing you pfdan and we are here for you...

Ah.....someone older than me. We can be pals. I was born in 1946 and got hit in 1969 when I was 23. They disappeared in 1991 when I was 45. I'm not sure why but there is some iffy evidence for an age factor but nothing definite. I think my being AARP age hasn't hurt though. I was scared and then unbelievably pissed off. I already had epilepsy and I kept saying: "How about one thing at a time?" Stick around and let us know how you're doing. Here is a link for a technique I and others have found successful. I hope you give it a try: Good luck, Charlie

The theory is that CH is a lifelong affliction but that periods of remission get longer as you age.

| Maybe you need to talk to one of us in person? Where do you live? I see real desparation here. It is a lot easier to deal with when some one else can share it with you. We DO know what you are feeling and experiencing. ALL of us care here. Lean on us. That is one of the things we do best. We don't let a fellow sufferer down. Keep us informed. Chuck

Hi, Thanks! I live in the Fort Myers, Fl area. I am not in fear or pain, now. It has gone on for years and when I thought it was over (age) it came back. Frequency way up, duration and strength down. I prevailed and intend to continue to do so. I was harsh in my statement, but I think I mean it. I really dop not expect it to come close to that end. Question; do these go away with age, or do those go away? Yes, the fear of having another wasa a forgotten thing. Then they started again and the FEAR of the next is almost worse than the real thing. Thanks again! Gary

Hi Gary, Guess all of us have a bit of "fear of the unknown". And no doubt, for me, this has been some scarey shit. Stay here...on this board and this site...Someone is here all the time....24/7. The support you find here is unlike anything you have ever experienced. Jean

Yes ... this is a great place to be with many great people who are understanding and caring. I know it sounds hard to believe, but we know what you're going through. And like Jean said...there is always someone here ready to listen and help out in anyway they can. You've found a new home ! Welcome !

Born in 42. Had a 4yr remission age 56-59. At 60 had a 6month attack but pain less severe than previous 30 yrs worth. Been pain free since Jan. There is hope with age that things get better.

| This is a point I feel strongly about. It's one thing to type squiggles on keyboard.......but if you're serious about this, then we kinda need folks in local areas to do hands on support. Quote:I live in the Fort Myers, Fl area. |
| Neato......the Fla group outta be able to go heads up with you. There's nothing like dealing with your local support group.......which....I hope...will become the norm in the future. Back to the pasture, RJ

Hi Gary, welcome to the MB....I understand that fear very well....I get it everytime my meds stop working (I am chronic) and the chs break thru again..especially if I am out of imitrex injections..afraid I wont be able to cope, to work , to sleep , to deal with the beast one more time...that fear is very real to me...As far as getting better the older you get, I am not sure about that...I am praying they do...and I will be another year older next week...who knows, maybe it will be my YEAR....OH, we are having a clusterhead get together in Englewood, Florida on Oct. 11th...Would love to have you join us...email me if you are interested OK? smiles, nancyc
